Star Wars Weekends Discontinued?
This evening I read on a Disney fan blog that Star Wars Weekends are going to be discontinued. I tried searching for information, and found on another site that if not discontinued, they would be scaled down. This would include Disney characters no longer dressed as Star Wars characters. Has anyone else heard anything about this? We went for the first time last year, and loved it.

My guess is something's gotta give because of the anticipated construction and the other sites are speculating on that. Wouldn't be surprised if it was scaled back, moved or postponed once DHS redo's get going full scale.

My gut feeling is that the Season of the Force will replace the SWW while the heavy construction is happening.

They won't need SWW when we have Star Wars Land.

I don't know about that. SWW is a big event with a lot of things that happen that have nothing to do with having a Star Wars land. Celebrity appearances, special merchandise, panels, etc. I think they will still do it, and it will probably be even MORE popular once the land opens.

It sounds like a great opportunity to host the annual Star Wars Celebrations (their version of ComicCon) on alternating coasts. It would be a huge draw and a great way to keep it "all in the family."

From the Orlando Sentinel:
Disney's Hollywood Studios will not be offering its annual Star Wars Weekends any more, Walt Disney World reported Monday.
The popular event held on consecutive weekends in May and June is going away because of construction of a Star Wars-themed land in the park. Once the new area opens, there will be 14 acres devoted to Star Wars every day, the company said.

Disney could theme a restroom to Star Wars and turn it into hard ticket event for $129 a head, no AP discount allowed, and still they would have to carry the cash out in 4 armored trucks every night.
I don't see them missing any chance to rake in all of that cash, they just needed to disband the guarantee that people would expect certain things if they continued the traditional time and location of Star Wars Weekend as it has been in the past.

BIL is somewhat a SW fan, but it was a nightmare when we were there. Wall to wall people and nowhere to eat. We wandered the entire park and didn't get lunch untill 3:00! Finally went back to Backlot and they were setting up for some event and had half of it closed off.
