Default Using removable 3M hooks in rooms???

We are staying in POR with a family of 5 (DH, DD15, DS13, DS12) this December. I heard that with the new murphy bed, storage is very limited now. I was wondering if anyone has ever brought those 3M Command hooks that you can remove from the walls when you leave? We will be bringing extra hangers, but for things like sweatshirts, drawstring backpacks, and lanyards, I thought about using those hooks. I've used them in my home without damaging my walls. Has anyone had any problems with them in their homes?

We have not had any problems .... but I will be watching this thread. What a good idea (if it works!)!

What a great idea. I think I may have to bring some along for our trip in Oct. I'm going to use them in the shower to hang our shower scrunchies.

I got the idea from when I just remodeled my daughter's room. She had these all over her room holding jewelry, lanyards, sweatshirts, etc. I had to remove them all to paint and not a single one damaged the wall...and they'd been on for almost a year.

Two drawbacks I can think of right off the bat are:

    1. The big hooks are EXPENSIVE. Something hefty enough to hold a sweatshirt, for example, can run $10-15 each at Target.

    2. You need to let them "cure" for 24 hours before hanging anything substantial from them. If your trip is really short, it won't really be a benefit to bring these.

Also, you CANNOT use these on wallpapered surfaces and many of the rooms at WDW are wallpapered. These will rip the wallpaper right off when you try to remove the tacky strip.

Good thought, but probably won't work too well at WDW. I suggest using the bedposts, door knobs, and chair backs for hanging stuff. That's what we always do and it's usually enough.

Also, worth noting, I've had a few of these really ruin the paint on walls. It seems to be that the more heavy duty ones don't just "pull right off" when you go to remove the sticky tab. I've had the tab top rip right off and then I've had to literally scrape the gummy strip off the wall with a knife to get it off. These ruined the walls in 2 of our bathrooms in our old apartment. We had to pay a damage repair fee when we moved out...

I have used Command hooks many times at WDW with no problems. I don't wait 24 hours to let them cure. I have only used them in the bathrooms, though, and I tend to stick them to doors only.

I keep the hooks and extra adhesive in our suitcases for travel purposes. I also send them to camp with my kids so they have a place to hang wet towels and swimsuits.

You HAVE to be really careful when you pull them off. I have a big whole in the drywall and paint in my living room from those - I used them for Christmas decorations last year and a big chunk came off when I was taking them down.

I don't think I will be using them as I would be
scared that they might mess the walls up but
maybe on the tile in the shower it might be
ok. Good idea if it works.

I'll use them in the bathroom on the tile for swim suits and scrubbies and maybe on the front door if it's metal. I wouldn't want to damage the walls. It's never happened to me before, but it would just be my luck that it would happen while there.

THAT is what happened to us too! I had some in the bathroom to hold up shower caps, small towels, etc. Ruined the wall in there when I tried to take it off. Massively.

As a former Mousekeeper, please DON'T do this! The walls (wallpapered or not) have been painted and repainted...so if you stick anything to it...it might take a lot off.

Perhaps the tile in the bathroom will be best. But resort staff may be told about it if it's attached to Disney property.

Perhaps bring along a hanging shoe rack (cheap at Target, Walmart, and even dollar stores) and attach it to a clothes hanger.

You can get these that hang over the door too. This is what we use to help stay organized when traveling.

I've used them at home with mostly good results, except for the time one pulled the paint off in my basement rec room.
