What's
Your Gift?
The
information on this site may not be
reproduced in any form on the Internet
without express written permission from EDC.
The exit to the pavilion
takes us by several large gift boxes.
Passing under the sign that reads
"What's Your Gift to the
World?" variations of the
"Celebrate the Future Hand in
Hand" theme are heard. Richly
colored gold and maroon curtains line the
walls throughout the exit area. The first
gift box is seen straight ahead and to
the left. In the middle of each gift box
are rotating screens (like those used in
the entrance area). A large illustrated
sign on the wall on the right shows three
or four people from varying cultures and
reads "We are more alike, my
friends, then we are unalike" - Ms.
Maya Angelou.

Rounding the bend, this
side of the gift box features drawings of
kids achieving something. An image of a
gift tag is projected on the floor and
reads "Gift of Achievement."
Beyond that on the wall on the left, is a
sign with a quote from Walt Disney. To
the right, is the Gift of Healing on a
different box. The backside of this box
features the Gift of Wisdom. The next box
on the left shows the Gift of Art
followed by the Gift of Music. The last
box on the right is the Gift of
Community. The rotating screen first
shows a drawing of about 15 children from
various cultures standing around a big
blob of dirt with tools in hand and the
phrase "Dreaming the Future Hand in
Hand." That changes to a picture of
the children shaping and creating the
Earth with the phrase "Building the
Future Hand in Hand." The last
screen shows the children standing in
front of the Earth some holding hands and
the phrase "Sharing the Future Hand
in Hand." More projected images on
the floor read "What's Your Gift to
the World?" They change colors and
move back and forth across the area in
front of the exit doors. The final quote
before exiting the pavilion reads:
"When we pull
together from across the world and
work together to solve a problem, we
almost always can do it ... Together,
we are the ultimate power. If we pull
our efforts together, we can get
almost everything done - all of us
around the world - 'We the
Peoples.'"
- Kofi Annan
Secretary-General of the United
Nations
Designers of Millennium
Village hope that each guest leaves
having learned something new about their
world and that cultural diversity is
important. "That we can honor the
past, celebrate the present, and design
the future together. Each one of us has
some special gift we can give to the
world that will help lead us all toward a
better tomorrow. As we celebrate our
entry into a new century and a new
millennium, we can see how many barriers
have fallen to make the world a much
smaller place. In Millennium Village,
you've caught a glimpse of the sights,
sounds, scents, and colors woven into one
international tapestry. You are part of
that fabric: what is your gift to the
world?" (Epcot 2000 Commemorative
Program)
A cast member thanks us
for visiting Millennium Village as we
exit the pavilion. An espresso,
cappuccino, coffee, and snack stand
decorated with the 2000 logo similar to
the color scheme on the front of
Millennium Village sits outside. A
pathway beyond the stand leads to phones
and restrooms. Throughout the summer of
2000, a Millennium Village Guest
Relations location was found through open
doors to the right of the entrance to the
pavilion. Walking down the pathway back
to World Showcase Promenade, we pass the
Millennium Village Pin Station where a
pin identical to the one each Millennium
Village cast member wears is available
for purchase. The only difference is that
the cast member pins have the flag of
their home country dangling from the
Millennium Village logo whereas the 2000
logo dangles from the guest pin.
Exit
Music
"Celebrate
the Future Hand in Hand"
Music by Ira
Antelis
Lyrics by Cheryl
Berman
While there were several
different versions used in the exit area,
each was fairly similar to these lyrics
differing only with slight word changes.
The
future is coming
You gotta catch it if you can
The magic's unfolding
And you can hold it in your hand
We can
touch tomorrow today
And make some memories
That never fade away
Put
your hands
On the future
Share a dream together
Around the world
With a voice from every country
A face from every land
We'll celebrate the future hand in
hand
Celebrate the future hand in hand
The
magic of tomorrow
Lives inside of you
Join the celebration
It's a fairytale come true
All of
us together
In harmony
All of us together
Making history
Put
your hands
On the future
Share a dream together
Around the world
With a voice from every country
A face from every land
Celebrate the future hand in hand
Celebrate the future hand in hand
Join
the celebration
It's an invitation
Feel the inspiration
A dream we all share
From
the very start of it
You can be a part of it
At the very heart of it
Everyone from everywhere
Put
your hands
On the future
Share a dream together
Around the world
With a voice from every country
A face from every land
Celebrate the future hand in hand
Celebrate the future hand in hand
Celebrate the future hand in hand
Celebrate the future hand in hand
Celebrate the future hand .. in hand
Celebrate
Everybody celebrate
Celebrate
Every nation celebrate
Ahh...
Millennium
Village Fact Sheet
Millennium Village
opened for previews to WDW Cast
Members and families from September
25 to 28, 1999.
On September 30,
1999, Millennium Village was
dedicated with a ceremony featuring
author and poet Maya Angelou, the UN
Undersecretary General for
Communication & Public Relations
Kensaku Hogan, a children's choir,
and Walt Disney Attractions President
Paul Pressler. International cast
members and the children's choir led
guests and the press to Millennium
Village. The pavilion officially
opened to the public on October 1,
1999.
January 1, 2001 was
Millennium Village's last day of
operation.
Brown construction
walls went up on January 2, 2001 as
the pavilion began its conversion
into a 40,000 square foot group
meeting center called World
ShowPlace. It will be the largest
ever inside a theme park
accommodating 4,000 people. This
explains why the restrooms are so
huge. The meeting area will also
contain a kitchen and a backstage
entrance with a drop-off area on the
United Kingdom side.
The roof of the
pavilion is outfitted with a watering
system to cover the entire roof with
water. This system is triggered a few
minutes before any fireworks show
begins and runs throughout the whole
show to ensure that any stray
fireworks or sparks do not land on
the roof and cause damage to the
building.
WDI's Terry Dobson
was the senior show producer for the
pavilion
The pavilion covers
60,000 square feet
Imagineers traveled
around the world to find stories to
share with guests and countries
interested in creating an exhibit.
Approximately 300 new
cast members were recruited from the
countries represented.
Diane Rinkes was in
charge of finding the entertainment
groups for World ShowPlace.

Village Ambassador cast member and would
