Is there any end in sight to this current rain event?
So I've been watching various sites and seeing all the ponchos wearing, soaked to the bones, guest pictures of the parks over the last week or so. I am from Louisiana so I am aware of the tropical depression sitting in the gulf. We leave Thursday for Disney and will be there till June 2nd. Any locals have a better grasp than I do on how long this rain event is expected to last? Has it really been rain all day, everyday? Should I anticipate no pool time and plan to skip the waterparks? I know it's the weather and some times impossible to predict, just looking for some feedback from those who live there and may be more knowledgeable than myself. I sure miss Stormchaser's posts at times like this.I
This is my son's graduation trip and his GF's first trip. We are booked at the Poly with the intentions of having a slow paced, pool filled week. Nothing we can do about the current weather situation, but I sure am growing more and more disappointed at the possibility of a rained out week.

Well, I'm here now and do kind of feel like Florida is trying to drown me. We have had several rain all day, soaked to the bone days with no pool time. We've also had some that were just overcast with showers. At least the rain is much warmer than where I come from, so we've been carrying on. I sure wouldn't be going to a water park, and I'm going to hit the pool right away while I can. I'd say hope for the best but prepare for the worst. I'm on my second poncho after my cheap one from home pretty much disintegrated from over use!

According to my DD who is a cast member the current weather pattern is expected to last for at least another 2 weeks. That being said we all know that could change. She would like to see it change as her feet have been wet for 2 weeks now!

The local TV "weatherguessers" are saying the rainy days will be continuing for at least the next week, and Memorial Day is likely to be a washout.

Well this stinks!!!! Of course when we are looking forward to a more hotel time, less park time trip we get this weather. Not to mention I made so many cute shirts and now they are likely to be covered up with ponchos. Oh well, we will just roll with the punches, not much else we can do.

My son and his friends checked in Sunday and the weather has been horrible ever since. He left NJ with horrible weather and was hoping for at least a little sunshine....Not.
He said he should have packed more socks and extra sneakers or water sneaker/shoes of some sort to switch off and on. The poncho keeps you dry, but the feet take a beating in the rain.
I hope it clears for just one day before he heads home.
Have a nice trip anyway....a bad day at Disney beats a good day at home I guess.

I was thinking about Stormchaser too when we were there. Actually, I started thinking about him while we were flying there - the way he explained that turbulence in an airplane is like a car hitting the bumpy spots in the road. I reassure myself with that every time I fly.
It rained every day we were there. Most days it didn't start raining until the afternoon, rained all afternoon, and then stopped again in the evening. The only day that it really ruined anything was our last day there - due to the lightning. We didn't even bother with ponchos. People around us were wearing ponchos and still got wet.
Definitely take a couple of different pairs of shoes and lots of socks.
I am not a big pool person, but if you are going to get wet in the pool, why would rain stop you? Same with the water parks. As long as there isn't any lightning, they will keep them open.
I'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.

Yeah, I put on my hat, put on my low tint sunglasses (keeps water out of the eyes) and move on. I have similar memories of wdw as a kid. Trekking through the rain is just part of it. In fact, if I don't do that at some point of my trip, I feel like i didn't' get the full disney experience. Since I care little for parades or even some of the fireworks, and I don;t mind. Though I do hate it if my fishing trip is cancelled.

After this trip, I was rather glad my DD changed her mind on the wedding. I could imagine all that rain ruining such a grand occasion.

Cinderelly, lounging by the pool sipping on tropical drinks just isn't quite the same when your being rained on! Lol. There's that, and if there is lightening in the area the pools close. Of course we get in the pool too, but just not what we had in mind, that's all.

Well, we've shared our rainy days there for sure. I like the flash rain storms as they sometimes help empty the park but not always. Hopefully by the end of June it'll be dried up and hotter than ever !! I can hardly wait to go !!

We were in Epcot yesterday and it was actually quite nice. Of course, we left mid-afternoon just before the rain started. Right now, it is a muggy, sunny day but some showers may be popping up this afternoon.
The weather folks are watching some weather in the Gulf which could turn into a tropical storm. Even if it doesn't, it looks like this system will bring much water into Florida over the holiday weekend.
After months of very little rain with an ever increasing threat of fires, we seem to have switched to the exact opposite!!

We just returned, and the weather was not nearly as bad as what the forecast predicted. Forecast called for 90% chance of rain/storms every single day we were there.
Here's what actually happened:
Day 1: Morning sun, torrential downpour in the afternoon. Basically shut down MK for a while, then we got back to the resort and it had hardly rained at all.
Day 2: Off and on showers, sometimes just a light drizzle that was not even worth getting the poncho back out.
Day 3: Overcast with a brief hard rain that we somehow missed while on an inside ride.
Day 4: Sun and clouds. We thought it was overall a great day, but someone above just said that they got rained on that day. Florida weather is crazy.
Day 5- Gorgeous sunny day. First day we actually needed sunscreen. Then DS complained about being hot . . . I laughed at him!
Be prepared with ponchos and hats, umbrella, and multiple shoe options.

YES!! That is the one thing I feel like I really missed out on, with this trip I just got back from. That was my plan A especially for my days at the Universal hotel, and I didn't get to do it once. Yesterday as we were LEAVING the sun was high in a tropical blue sky. That figures! LOL And with the greatest of irony it was actually just as warm, and 100% sunny ALL last week in Alberta (and we had SNOW on the ground a month ago!). I seriously probably just spent the only nice week of summer in Alberta down in Florida getting flushed away LOL

Lol. Oh. I thought you were going to go swimming. I thought "wow, that's an awful lot of time to spend in the pool. They will look like prunes!.", but a lot of people out here in Arizona spend the whole afternoon in the pool.
Well, make some of those cute guys hold giant palm tree branches over you to block the rain while you sip on your drinks.
I'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.

I'm anxious to hear how your trip went! Looking at the weather reports it looks like you might have had some nice days after all??

Well the weather was not as bad as I was expecting, thank goodness!
Seems each day that it rained we were, luckily, back in our room showering and changing for dinner and getting ready to return to a park. Typical Florida thunderstorms, that we are used to when traveling there in the summer.
The only day we had an all day rain was our full MK day. We still threw on the ponchos and kept going, but so did everyone else. The crowds did not thin at all, and it rained ALL DAY LONG! We had already done an evening at MK and had plans to spend the second half of our last day at MK, so it was all good. And riding BTMRR with ponchos on and pouring rain is just too much fun!!!!!! Lol
I will say that this trip was the hottest and most crowded of all our 20+ trips! I've been going to Disney long enough, and often enough, to know what to expect on a holiday week (Memorial Day), but this was like nothing we've seen before. We have been to Disney the actual week of several holidays; Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween; we've been all different weeks of the summer in June, July, and August, including the exact week we were just there. We've been during a Mardi Gras/President's Day week combo. Never has it been so crowded and so hot. We had park hoppers and planned ahead and there was just no escaping it. And certainly the heat had a lot to do with this, but we encountered ruder guests than ever before. We had a great time, and my son's girlfriend says she had an amazing time, but it definitely took us by surprise.
Glad that my kids are now of the age that we can soon start to visit during non school breaks again. Oldest just graduated high school and youngest has just 2 years left. DH and I will likely finally take a trip without the kids for food and wine in a few years, and other than that we will only visit outside of summer and not during any school breaks as a family. Planning several years break from Disney anyway, so when we do return we can go during any week we'll want.
