POP. I am not impressed with POFQ or Riverside. The difference is location and the pools really. The food isnt really worth choosing PO for and the location is close to the Springs, so unless you intend on shopping a lot I would save the money. I also dont see you spending a lot of time on the waterslides that set the pools apart from one another; and the slides at this resort are for 4-5 yr olds. My children were underwhelmed at a young age. If you stay pop you can walk over to Art of Animation and they have a wonderful food court...I don't remember anything too exciting at Pop's other than their tie dyed cheesecake. The rooms will be so similar you wont feel the pinch by staying value in this situation.

This question is very personal to most people due to preferences and the age of their kids. I've stayed at POP a few times and think it's one of the best values but POFQ is hands down one of the best moderates. Love it's charm and tranquility and is such a stark difference of pace from the hustle and bustle that is Disney.

We have stayed at both resorts and while we enjoyed POP (we were there with our grandkids - great resort for kids), POFQ is our favorite resort. The things that stand out for us at POFQ are...queen size beds (only doubles at POP), covered bus stops with benches (POP has no cover at it's bus stop and nowhere to sit while waiting), a whirlpool (no whirlpool at POP), boats to Disney Springs, lovely walking path between PO Riverside and POFQ, Yee Haa Bob at POR and evening entertainment at POFQ. It's just a more laid-back, adult feeling resort in our opinion. And it's the smallest resort at WDW, so everything is close together. It is a beautiful resort!

For two adults I think POFQ would be the better choice of resorts. With all the new food/drink places at DS, having the water taxi would be a plus for evenings.

To piggyback on what VWL Mom said above, two adults might enjoy PO:FQ more. For one thing, you have a much nicer lounge for relaxing and having an adult beverage, and if you get the opportunity, you should go over to PO:R and see Yehaa Bob at the River Roost! Well worth the walk (or boat ride.) For another, if you plan on spending any time over at Disney Springs, the trip is much nicer on the boats from PO:R & PO:FQ than it is on the bus from Pop.
Yes, I am a Pop fan, but that is for solo trips.

Wow - good arguments for both places. Guess I'll have to stew over it a while longer - the charter isnt until the last week of September. I really love hearing other peoples input - and thank you for taking the time, I do appreciate it

I tend to book my room and ticket package through Magical Journeys and flights directly through Southwest Airlines. I get my best deals this way. MJ will apply any discounts automatically and I can book one way flight down through Southwest, then wait for discounts before booking my return flight.

I like POP well enough but the FQ is far and above superior. The food choices and quality are much the same but the ease of travel to DtD by boat makes it that much better at the FQ. The FQ will be quieter and if you get bored you can take a short walk over to Riverside to enjoy, but who spends that much time at the resort anyway. ....so, the money saved may sway me on a short trip so I'm not much help at all ..... huh ??

Our family has stayed at both places, and DW and I definitely prefer POFQ, but our kids liked Pop Century better. If DW and I are going alone. it'll be POFQ for us. But on the other hand, if $$$ are tight, and the $500 difference in price really makes a difference for your finances, then go for Pop. You'll still have a great time, and like others have said, unless your going to spring the really bucks for a deluxe, who spends that much time in the resorts anyway?

Some thoughts Pop vs POFQ
Pop is a much larger resort and both have a single bus stop. Buses at POFQ are much easier to navigate both to the park and at the end of the night but keep in mind that more buses will be scheduled for Pop.
Now I like kids, but I also like not having hundreds of them running around at the resort. If your adults are really kid oriented then POP may be the way to go, but if you think anyone in your party would benefit from a break away from all the little rays of sunshine then I would suggest POFQ.
POP is designed top to bottom for the younger families.

I've stayed at both, as an adult with no kids. I'd choose POFQ of the two choices. It feels more adult. I love taking in the live music in the evenings at Riverside (a quick and beautiful walk from POFQ) at River Roost. POFQ has hot tubs at their pool and they actually feel kind of secluded, which is nice. But the biggest reason I love POFQ is the boat ride to Disney Springs! It's such a nice transportation option and makes it so easy to just pop over in the evening for a night cap, when taking the bus from any other resort just feels like so much more of a production in comparison!

We have stayed at both.
We would choose POFQ over POP for sure. It is such smaller resort and the boat to Disney Springs is fantastic.
The atmosphere at POP is going to be more frenzied, you will have a more laid back experience at POFQ.
And beignets.

We have done a few adults only. We tend to favor POP due to $$$. The money goes to upscale food. The beds are double, but 1 adult can survive. Pop has a bar by 1 of the pool/laundry areas.
We only tried preferred once, it seemed to matter more for lots of kids. The walking times did not vary by more than a couple of minutes across the whole complex. POP is big, but not like Corando Springs or Carribean Beach.

For adults? No question... POFQ.
More intimate. Less noise. Easy access to Disney Springs.
Would you rather feel like you're in the French Quarter, or in a Popish/trendy environment?

I know this is a little late, but you are discussing my two favorite resorts. I had to join in.
My favorite area in Pop Century is not the preferred rooms. If you have a medical reason for staying there, that is fine. If you want to save some money and have what I consider to be the most enjoyable area, request the 50s area on the back of the middle building (behind the jukebox thing). You can see the fireworks from just outside of your room. The higher your room is, the better. There is an elevator. The walk to the main building with the food courts and bus stops is fairly short. There is a quiet pool there, and we've never been disturbed with noise.
Pop Century is a fun resort. It has a very "disney" feel to it. There's a poolside bar if you want an occasional drink. The buses only have one stop, so no waiting for them to reach yours. I think that is an asset. Others prefer multiple bus stops. There isn't any shade for the line, so it can be hot. We never waited too long though. I really enjoy the gift shop and wandering around the resort taking in everything there is to see. I wouldn't hesitate one moment to book this for another girls' trip.
Pop Century was my favorite resort at Disney World (yes, even over the deluxes) until I stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. We stayed in the mansion section, and I fell in love. The grounds are beautiful. (I live in the desert. If you are used to green, it may not impact you as much.) The build your own pasta station is awesome. The table service restaurant is pretty good also. There is a bar if you are into drinking more than one on occasion with some live entertainment. The boat to Disney Springs is nice. There are multiple stops for the buses which are covered. We had one right outside of our building, but I would get impatient waiting to get there at times. One big downside is there are a lot of spiders, if you are like me and hate them. The bridges across the river are very romantic at sunset, and there is a horse and carriage ride you can take.
To me, French Quarter was rather creepy. I heard they took the masks out of the dining area, but it is definitely very mardi gras'ish. (yeah, I just made that word up). I thought the walk between french quarter and riverside was kind've long. I do have a muscle condition. A normal person may not think it is long. They have beignets there that are pretty tasty. If you stay here, post some pics so we can see the new dining area please.
I'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.

I miss the old decorations in the food court at POFQ. I really do not feel like it changed a lot besides them taking down the decorations and the flooring color, which also have what appears to be some fleur de lis spray painted on the floor and I just think it makes the floor look dirty overall.
I took a few pics of the interior but I'm not sure how to post here... I do like the cabinets with the mardi gras masks that are hanging up. And FQ is our home resort, and creepy yes.. but the real french quarter has the same mardi gras vibe and I dig it
Pop, for us, the overwhelmingness of the food court and the bus station is no longer appealing. I loveeee how quiet FQ is. I love how there is only one bus stop and it never hardly goes to POR and there is hardly a wait or line (this has been our experience last two times).

And I know I'm late on this also BUT GO TO POFQ OR POR. it is beautiful and feels high end. The boat to Disney Springs is really nice and there is hardly a long wait. Plus you can take the boat to POFQ/POR to explore and it is probably only about 5 minutes away on the boat.
