Returning lost camera very rewarding...
We enjoyed our 4/27-5/4, 2013 trip. Very relaxing with just two couples and plenty of time to take it all in.
Had a great experience at Epcot one day:
One day while exiting Soarin', my friend Josh noticed that something had been left in the basket/bin underneath his wife's seat on the ride. He grabbed it... it was a Nikon D3100 D-SLR camera. Being sure that someone would be outside the ride looking for it, he called out to see if anyone would claim it. No one did.
Before taking it to turn it in to a CM, he decided to take a look at the last few photos taken (just to see if could recognize the owner). Turns out it had been over an hour since the last photo had been taken. A beautiful family of four. We looked around the Soarin' area for a little while but didn't see them. Finally decide to take it over to the main Guest Relations office to turn it in.
Josh was really hesitant to hand it off to GR agent without getting some kind of receipt which they wouldn't give. They wouldn't even take Josh's number so the owner could call to verify that he had gotten his camera back. We were just trying to be sure he got it. He gave it to the agent, trusting them to follow through. I might add that the rest of the day we kept our eyes peeled for the family that had lost their camera. Funny cause the Father had on this really bright peach colored golf shirt... needless to say that's what we looked for.
No luck... but then about three hours later, we were heading towards the front of the park to exit and got in the Spaceship Earth queue to ride once more. Halfway up the ramp we saw what had to be the family going towards the center of the park. We ran back down the ramp towards them. As we got closer we could see that he had the camera strapped around his neck!! We introduced ourselves and let them know we were the ones who found the camera and turned it in. They laughed at the fact that we had looked a few shots to see what they looked like and had found them. The mom shed a few tears too because it turns out they still had some family pictures on the camera from their family Christmas. We went our separate ways feeling pretty good!
All in all... a very good day!

A great post. It always warms my heart hearing stories like this one. I'm glad to see the magic is alive and well.
I have to admit that recent negative posts have made me wonder about people. You have reaffirmed my belief that Intercot is still the home of happy, helpful and caring people.
Thanks for sharing. And, congratulations for thinking about others and for taking the time to be sure another family had a happy day.

So glad you got to meet the family and I'm sure seeing them with the camera made you feel better. Nice job!
Just a hint which I've posted many times before: the first picture you take should be of your cell phone number on a piece of paper. If you do get separated from it, kind people like MCeee will have a way to contact you.

Wow... thanks VWL Mom! What a great idea! In fact, since we were the ones who actually found the cam, we could have taken a pic of our number so when they got it they could call us to verify.
BTW... I have no idea why I put this on the accommodations section of the site?!
Mod please feel free to move it.

We had a similar experience on our recent trip to France, except that we were the ones who lost our camera. A nice lady in Normandy turned it in to the local police department and we were able to recover it there. We had all the pictures from our vacation on the memory card, so were so grateful that someone honest had turned it in!

Great story! That's a nice camera, That was nice of you to want to make sure it got back to its owner.
Last weekend I left my nice watch at the gym. (Took it off while running) someone found it and refused to hand it over to employees. She left her cell phone so as to get it back to me. I was extremely grateful (as I'm sure this family was).

That is fantastic. I read this with tears in my eyes. On a trip to WDW we had our camera stolen and I can't tell you how sad it made me. Obviously there were photos on there I will never have again. I am so happy they got their camera back. I know you made their trip so so magical.

Very kind of you. I too had lost my camera and a very kind woman returned it to me. I was so grateful.

My DH left our video camera on a bench in Fantasyland a few years back and it was toward the end of our trip so there was alot of video. I was SO upset but sure enough, someone had taken it into the gift shop there and it had been sent up to Guest Relations. Great lesson for the kids and adults - Always do the right thing. You never know when some kind soul will do it back.

Nice job !
Over the years my family, mostly my father () has lost cameras, hat (on the big drop of Splash Mountain), even his wallet and everything was returned as is.
We found his hat at the lost and found the next day. They fished his hat out of the water. It was a Superbowl XX hat my wife and I picked up for him on our honeymoon in California.

When we were there a couple of weeks ago my DS 7 left his hat on the bench where we were waiting to go into Biergarten for lunch. It was 1/2 way through lunch that he realized he didn't have it and was heart broken.
It was an Agent P fedora hat that he had been having all the characters sign and was collecting pins on. I was certain that we'd never see it again but I was wrong. Someone had found it and turned it into the gift shop there in Germany. My little one was so very happy and I was glad to be proven wrong in the conclusion I jumped to.

This is just what I was going to say! I set my point and shoot down at our local zoo, and got distracted. They don't have a ton of staff (it's a free zoo) so I was pretty sure it was lost. Then my phone rang. A nice family had found it, and looked through the pictures just like MCeee did to see if they could find me. When they found my phone number, they called and I got my camera back before even leaving the zoo.

What a great idea I will have to do this. I hope if I ever lose my camera someone would be as thoughtful as you guys were and track me down or call me.. lol
Great story
Been there, done that and going back!!! See ya real soon !!!

The first picture on my camera is my address and home phone, but now I have to go check to see if I included the cell # (d'oh!)
Another tip (which I almost always remember) is to get any precious photos (like ones from last Christmas) copied off your camera before you go somewhere where you might lose it.
