Question What to do.. what to do.... ???

I'm caught in a little bit of a dilemma... I MUST schedule my vacation time for the rest of the year, we are definately going to the World in November but I can't decide on which week

Last year we went during Jersey week, which was great and was looking at that week again for this year but Veterans Day also falls during that week which I'm assuming will impact crowds and definately airfare. We are not all that concerned about the crowds, we can handle moderately high and the kids will only miss 3 days of school, we can be there 6 full days plus 2 travel days but the airfare is through the roof! The flight is easy from NJ, a little over 2 hours, love ME but I really can't justify $2000 - $2200 in round trip airfare. We could stay another week for that!!

The other week we were looking at would be Friday after Thanksgiving to Wednesday... the kids will still miss 3 days of school; the airfare, believe it or not, is much less that the previous week BUT we will have 2 less full days there As much as I love the idea of being there for Thanksgiving, that is NOT an option...

Airfare is important but keeping the days the kids miss from school minimal is also important... we won't allow them to miss more than 3 days for a vacation....

I don't know what we should do, will probably have extended family going as well. Last year was the 1st time we drove down, wasn't horrible but not fun. DH said "Never Again!"

What to do... what to do... any opinions????

Tough choices! I'm assuming from your post that you're buying airfare separately. I would go ahead and schedule the trip for Jersey Week so you can have those extra days. You can wait to see if the airfare goes down -- you have several months to watch fares. Usually you can wait until a couple of months before you leave before the airfares start going up again.

That way if you can get a good airfare, you can snatch it up, and if not, you can choose between spending that money and driving. Either way, you get the extra two days and the kids don't have to miss any more school. You can even let DH decide whether to spend the money since it sounds like he's not too keen on driving.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

We usually go down that time also. One option is you might consider is rather than Sat - Sat, try flying out Monday night or Tuesday am and return the following Monday. Airfares are lower and kids would still only need to miss 3 days.

Have you tried looking at Train Fare? Amtrak offers great deals and a lot cheeper tprices than Air Fare. Plus the children would love that!

Thanks for your thoughts!! I'm kinda leaning towards the first week... we probably won't be heading back down for another year and i would rather get 2 more full days... who wouldn't right??? I will look into the train. I looked a while back and prices weren't much different than the flights so we of course flew down. Worse case scenario... we will drive DH will just have to deal

Jersey week is a great time to go. I would also go for the extra days and probably just pay the extra fare. Our trip is in Oct this year and we are paying more in airfare than we ever had before.
