Former Attraction Question
I am having a brain lapse. Can anyone tell me what used to be in the space that is now Stitch's Great Escape before it was Alien Encounter?

It would be great if they could bring back Mission to Mars with new technology
-
When did Mission to Mars close? I don't think I remember that one.

Captain Eo proved to me that there is a good reason why an attraction closed in the first place and should not be resurrected --the only thing more brutal than the film itself on our last visit was the terrible "making of" pre-film we had to sit through first.

My thoughts exactly. I do agree with others. Some things were fascinating in their time. But, bringing them back may be nostalgic some. For others who did not experience the ride when it was the best technology had to offer, it would simply be just a hokey ride.

I've pretty much thought that all of the attractions that occupied that space were less than spectacular. We're heading down for 1st time with 3 DD and will probably not even do it, unless we are bored and all the other lines are too long.
If they were to bring back something nostalgic, let it be 10,000 Leagues beneath the Sea.

I loved that ride when I was little. Thought I was really on a sub.

The loss of 20,000 Leagues was one of the biggest errors ever in WDW history! It was even more insulting when they put a playground in its place. DLR still has their subs, why not WDW????

I was so sure that that was true! Well, I'm wrong!
Hey wait? What is Alien Encounter now???
It's time to remember the magic!

The first attraction in the theater now occupied by Stitch's great escape was called Flight to the Moon, it opened in December, 1971. It was not really very "tomorrow" oriented even then, since we actually landed men on the moon in 1969. It was changed to "Mission to Mars" in 1975, using the same basic technology with a different script and scene projections. There were screens on the floor and ceiling that showed the space scenes outside the ship. These shows used the same circular tiered seat theater used in Alien Encounter and now Stitch.
The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Ebcounter show opened in 1995 and closed in 2003. The theatre was updated with new technology (making more of a 4-D show) for Alien Encounter, and Stitch uses the same tecnology with a different storyline of course.
1971 (age 15) MK was new!

I agree. Wasn't Mission to Mars where the famous Tom Morrow used to reside?

We did Stitch for the first time and last time, this year. Wasn't impressed with that OR Alien. I don't really remember the original(s).

I couldn't disagree more with you on this! I've been to DLR twice recently and not only enjoy the Captain EO Tribute enormously because of the nostalgia factor, but because -- hey, it's George Lucas, it's sci-fi, 3D fun, there are great tunes, etc.
