Unless others start commenting it usually takes me a couple of days to get my thoughts together.
I suppose they'll just kill off new, developed characters.
So far it appears no one's life is better off just because the plane did not crash, with the exception of Charlie who is, at least, still alive.

Well I'm not sure that they aren't better off in the flash sideways, they just aren't all rosey & peachy keen, ie: Jack connected with his son and maybe his Daddy issues are a thing of the past, Nadia is alive and well although she is with another man, Locke seems to be coming to grips with his being in the wheelchair, Hurley does not look affected by bad luck.
While others seem to be in very different places ie: Jin seems to still be doing dirty work for Mr Paik, Claire is having issues with the adoptive family but showing real concern about Aaron, Kate as always is running.
It is all very interesting. I like the fact that we still see a lot of Lapidus, I am wondering what part he will play in the end. Tomorrow looks good with Ben information coming out!!

Very interesting "Ben-centric" show last night. The look on his face at the end of the show, when Ilana allowed him to become a part of the group on the beach, made me think about how he had been a member of groups before but had never truly connected to anyone (except for Alex). And alternative universe Ben sacrificing his dreams to give Alex her dreams--so there is redemption for Ben as well? Never thought I would be empathetic to his character, lol!
And so now we (kind of) know why Richard never ages--because he was touched by Jacob. So everyone Jacob touches receives a "gift"?

Yes! Definitely reminiscent of past shows. And then there is Mr. Widmore. dah...da....daaaaaaah!

My darn DVR kept cutting out so I missed little pieces here and there. I didn't get to see the ending after they showed the sub periscope scoping the beach.
I really didn't know if Ben would make the sacrifice or not.
I can now check Richard off my list of questions.
Does anyone know exactly how long Jack, Kate and Sayid were back in the 70s? I've lost track of time.

I liked last night a lot. We got affirmitive answers to how Richard got to the island and why he never ages... Obviously we still don't know WHY Jacob can confer such powers. And are we now to assume that everyone that Jacob touched can't die? When Richard was speaking about not being able to kill himself I kept Flashing back to Michael who also could not die.
And then we had Ilana clearly tell Sun about the candidates to replace Jacob.
I think the most interesting part was the reveal that the island and Dharma DID still exist in the alterna-timline, as we hear when Ben's father references leaving it. Interesting.
The periscope at the end was TOO funny. My fiancee was cracking up at the spy-esque music. I don't know what to think about Widmore re-entering the game. My fiancee seems to thing that Flock/Smock/Locke whatever you want to call him might actually be leaving and that the rest of the guys will go to war with Widmore's peeps.

Well, I totally missed Ben's father referencing anything. That must have been one of the times my DVR cut out. But remember after the explosion and they showed the plane flying with everyone on board? They skimmed the waters of the ocean, went under and showed a sunken island with Dharma houses immersed.

You're right, we did know that Island existed in some form, but Ben's dad said something along the lines of "We should've stayed on that island I took you to when you were younger"
Thoughts about this week?
I thought Alterna-Sawyer's storyline was interesting. When it started out, I was thinking "Are you kidding me?? He's still a con man in this timeline?" I thought it was great to have him on the other side of the law, and partnered up with Miles no less, with their code word being "LaFleur" (Sawyer's Dharma security persona). My fiance and I were joking that they should do a buddy cop spin off.
The only thing that bothered me was Sawyer's lack of questioning. They had 2 perfect opportunities to really give us answers (And I'm paraphrasing here)
Locke/Smokie: "I am the smoke thing"
Sawyer "Oh you killed those people? Are you still getting me off the Island?"
Widmore: "I'm Charles Widmore. You don't know the first thing about me"
Sawyer: "I'll bring "John Locke" to you so you can kill him, deal?"
The other thing that I thought was significant was "Locke" saying that he had a crazy mother, and now Aaron's mom is crazy too.

I liked the Sawyer episode. Wasn't my favorite of the year (I really liked the Ben episode last week), but it continues to move the story along. I think we now see that the "war" Widmore talked about to John L. some time ago is coming to fruition. Just who the players are on each side is yet to be determined.
But next week....woo hooo. A Richard centric episode....and since he was on the Black Rock apparently in a slaves chains, why did Jacob "touch" him and give him the gift of life. Hopefully we get some answers about that.
But for sure, we're not going to get answers to any of the big questions until the finale. And I suspect, like the season 5 finale, it will twist our thinking all around.
That's what makes this show fun for me...getting me to go down a path and then in a logical fashion, twist it all around.
What am I going to watch when it's over? Survivor - Los Angeles?

Wow--very, very interesting episode. They are really starting to pull things together. It does seem to be coming down to a battle between good and evil. So, if the six survivors are the candidates to replace Jacob, what is Widmore?
This episode makes you realize the full extent of Richard's suffering. Not to sound repetitive, but it also makes you realize the redemptive powers of the island. When Jacob said "It doesn't matter what their past is", it starts to make sense. Sort of.
I will be thinking about this one for a while.

WOW. What an episode. The Richard backstory was well worth the wait. I LOVED that basically the entire episode was a flashback and we got his whole story straight up, and what a story it was. Nestor Carbonell was fantastic in this episode. When Hurley was talking to Richard's wife at the end, I was almost in tears.
I feel like tonight was a make it or break it episode for many people. We now know what the Island is- A cork keeping hell/evil/whatever you want to call it from overtaking the rest of the world. We still don't know exactly what type of beings Jacob/Man in Black are/were, or why MiB is able to manifest himself in the form of the smoke.
Also I LOVED the music for Richard's story... so haunting and beautiful.

Great episode!
The bible section he was reading was Luke 4:
"Luke 4 is the fourth chapter of the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. It details Jesus's three temptations, his rejection at Nazareth, and the start of his mission."

I looked that up, too -- thinking it might be a clue. The 40 day fast and the Devil trying to tempt Christ.....Hmmmmmmm.
So, I get that Smokey is suppose to be the pure evil....but what is Jacob suppose to be exactly?? He can summons ships and dole out eternal life, but he can't forgive transgressions or bring people back to life. I did really like the wine/cork analogy. It helped my feeble little mind make some sense of things -- unless it was a LIE! LOL

Ditto. The Ben episode was my favorite. I loved that they forgave him and how his face lit up!

When Ben was talking to Illana after escaping was some of the best acting I have seen on this show. Ben is not a personal favorite, but darn he is a good actor.

Great episode! I hope they can keep it up for the last handful and end it on a good note.
Wonder how our folks who have tired of the questions and wanting answers liked it?

Really liked last night. Excellent acting and again we're moving down the road toward the finale. Maybe I'll start calling myself Ricardus.
Why is it that only Jacob calls Richard that? Richard is known as Ricardo when he gets to the island. When is he ever Ricardus, like Jacob told Ilana?
And wasn't that an incredible tree "in the middle of the garden"....oh, I mean island. What's with the benches beneath it, way out in the middle of the island? Hmm. More Biblical references?
Jacob clearly isn't "God" since he can't pardon sins nor resurrect. An angel maybe? Is Smokey really the devil then or some demon?
And so it continues....lots of questions still to be answered.
