Oh yeah. Other things - Hurley is now lucky and Sun can't speak English.
So much has changed, yet so much seemed to stay the same as well (Jack, Kate, Locke, Charlie).

Either Sawyer or Miles sad they were ambushed in the jungle and brought to the temple. Sawyer looked like he fought back
(cannot remember which one said it)

Don't know why Desmond was on the flight either, but my wife said that Boone said his sister stayed in Australia when he was talking on the plane.

I think Sun was lying about not speaking English. Don't forget, she was originally leaving Jin when they first got on the flight.
As for the rest of Lost, I'm pretty lost too, like so many others. Very confusing. If "it worked", why are they still on the island, and yet, landing in L.A. Parallel universe? Oy, sometimes I think the writer's don't have a clue where they're going with this.

There are some good articles on the EW website and Damen Lindelof and Carlton Cuse gave an interesting interview with Jimmy Kimmel last night. Basically, what we are seeing this year are not flashbacks, nor flashforwards... they are "Sideways flashes." I'm still confused by the whole thing but apparently they are parallel universes somehow and they won't say whether one ever meets the other. From what I have gathered, in both Island World and Sideways World, the bomb went off. In Island World it sent them back to their present day (2007) and in Sideways world it reboots them just as Jack had hoped and we see how their lives play out.
I have to admit last night had me intrigued but more frustrated than ever. On Jimmy Kimmel, the guys said that fake John Locke IS the smoke monster, but were vague about whether or not he was also the man in black... in fact they made it seemed to be that smokey/MIB are NOT the same. So now I'm really confused.
They also gave a firm ending date... I think it's May 23rd, a SUNDAY. So it will be this big event.

Here's what I think so far. We have the Originals (everyone before the crash and in the past so aren't those technically flashbacks?) and the Dupes (everyone leftover from the plane crash that have all been kicked to the present).
We find that the Original's lives don't turn out so great after all just because the plane didn't crash.
We find that the Dupes work through all the junk they've been dealt and the secrets of the island are revealed.
Perhaps Michael and Walt (who is way to old to do a flashback) never need to interact with the Originals.
Perhaps Hurley was being facetious when he said he's the luckiest guy alive.
Questions:
Why did Miles not try to talk with Sayid after he died? (BTW, does anyone else think Miles looks too much like John of John & Kate?)
Didn't Desmond and Jack meet at a stadium at nighttime while jogging? That whole, "Thanks, brother." thing should have jogged () his memory.
So does this mean that Desmond and Penny are not together with the Originals?
How is it that Juliet knew it worked? I thought she was going to tell Sawyer she was pregnant, which would have made her death even more horrific.

I prefer to call the characters that are on Sideways Earth the Alterna-Jack, Altterna-Locke etc... Just like Fake Locke, "Essau" is called Flocke or as a friend of mine has coined Locke-ness Monster.
As to your first question.
I believe Miles knew something was up, maybe that Sayid was alive. Watch his facial expression.
A thought, these are probably wrong but if you hyper allegic to spoilery predictions even if there way off do not read.....
I think Jaccob will either take "Beached" Locke's body, or has already taken Sayid's.
Loads of trips since 1974...
-
I was thinking the same thing about the end with Sayid....is it REALLY Sayid....or someone/something else?
-
Miles definitely hovered over "dead" Sayid and had an odd expression.
The producers are the ones who are calling the alterna-reality scenes sideways flashes.
The plane did not pick up where it left of. As mentioned in the thread, many things are different. Maybe in that life Jack and Desmond never met on that Stadium run....

The plane did not pick up where it left off? Meaning they are in current time and not in 2004? I was wondering why Jack was looking at himself weirdly in the mirror, in the bathroom on the plane. My first thought was he was wondering why he suddenly looked so much older.

That really perplexed me, Mel. So the only purpose in bringing Juliet "back from the dead" (or so we thought) was so that she could die for real and then tell Miles that "it worked"? (I have a feeling that I'll be using a lot of confused smileys this season.)
I thought it was a good season opener. Some parts were mind-boggling--how many Lockes can we have in one show? There's the Locke on the plane, dead Locke and pseudo-Locke, all at the same time. The impression after the explosion that the island was now under water and then the muffled audio when Kate wakes up in the tree was surreal. And the apparent ongoing conflict between Jacob and the Man in Black leaves you wondering is that if they're headed for a showdown, will it be the classic "good versus evil" fight and if so, which side is good and which one is evil? The interpretation of that has been kicked about so many times on Lost.
One scene that made an impression on me was when everyone was disembarking from the plane and they all had such a sad air about them. Despite (most of) the survivors wanting to go back and not have the plane crash, none of them were truly happy when they did (with the possible exception of Rose and Bernard). Truth be told, they all became better people by the plane crashing on the island, which plays into the producers claim that the main focus of the show has always been redemption. I think the series will end on a hopeful note, whether they answer all our questions or not.

It DID... but it didn't at the same time. It is the same time period, but a different universe. What I meant was, it is not the same exact story leading up to that point in the flight if that makes sense.

I think we all need to go watch "BACK TO THE FUTURE" again and listen to the explaination given by Christopher Lloyd's character DOC to Michael Fox' character Marty McFly as to why things had to happen AGAIN exactly the way they did ....OR ELSE!!
Something already changed before anyone got on the plane. For some reason I immediately noticed Shannon was missing from Boone's side. AND something seemed off with Kate and that Federal dude too. About the handcuffs maybe???

I've been following Lost since 6 months before it even aired! So, yes, I am definitely watching! I actually haven't been this excited (literally bouncing the whole hour) about Lost since season 2. Are you enjoying it? I'm so glad to see Claire back and Charlie and Ethan and Boone...

I am enjoying it!! It's fun to see some of the old characters and I'm really, really curious to see how it will end. But, I swear they'd better explain everything or it's going to make me crazy.

We too are Lost watchers, haven't missed an episode all this time. My DH says he is Lost on Lost! Explanations of what in the heck is going on would be helpful. I'm starting to think that maybe they are somehow bringing this back to Aaron since he was born on the island. The only other character I am aware of that was born on the island was Alex and she's dead. I'm thinking there were others born on the island?
Any speculators?

Even if it turns out to be true, I don't see why Aaron would be pivotal. Neither he nor Alex were conceived on the island. To me, Jen and Sun's baby would seem more important (and she doesn't appear to be).
At one time I though Walt had way more significance than what's manifested.
Do you think that Kate will ultimately end up with Aaron in the alternate reality?
I was excited to see Claire save Jen. I want to know what's been going on with her.

LOST: how is it Jack has a teen-age son??
I hope this story-line is brought up to date NEXT week. Another new character?? I love this show, but a teen-age son for Jack is almost too much for me to comprehend.
Any thoughts??
