I'd suggest you just keep looking. With cutbacks in flights, it's likely the prices won't go down signficantly any time soon but there are sometimes specials offered.

We finally bit the bullet and booked our return flight last weekend on American to O'Hare. We're flying out Southwest from Midway, but they were $233 one way per person on the return home so we decided to change carriers/airports on the way back. I've been checking at least twice daily for the past several months, and unfortunately haven't found anything lower than $327 a piece round trip. That is absolutely the cheapest I was able to find going in to Orlando first thing on a Saturday and catching the last flight back on a Saturday two weeks later-different carriers, different airports. Now all of the flights have jumped back up in price, so I'm sure glad we booked when we did.
Not that what we paid is so bad - but I was not able to find any "cheap" fares either. Keep looking, but don't wait until you are out of options to try & book your flights!

Flying from Washington State I have been watching air fares for several months. We have enough miles to get free tickets on Alaska but they never have seats available using our miles so started looking for cheap fares on other airlines. Delta had round trip fares that I booked when they went down to 248.88 round trip. Free would be better but flying cross country for 250.00 is not bad! Keep watching and check different airlines daily.
It's definitely a case of flying from the right place at the right time AND looking at the right time. We tentatively booked a September WDW trip right when Free dining came out, without knowing for sure if we would be able to go. One of the big factors was airfare costs. While we wanted to wait until it was a little bit closer to purchase tickets (just in case we aren't able to go in September), there was an airfare sale out of DFW and the prices were too good to pass up.
The tickets for our family of four that we paid $179 each for a non-stop RT are now $323 each. Hopefully, my work schedule will not prevent us from being able to go, but at least now we don't have to worry about too high airfares pricing our trip out of reach.
Hopefully, fare sales will come again soon so my fellow Intercotees can get their mouse fix in.

I'm so frustrated. Prices are ridiculous-as high as over $500. We really don't want to drive 6 hours round trip to the big airport and don't know if that airline is on Magical Express.

Reason: Clarity
Flying from Indianapolis, IN on Southwest we are flying one way for 89 a person and the same for the return trip. It was the best prices I could find. I saw that now there are some being offered on Southwest for 59 a person one way.
Good Luck.
