Hi, we will be at Disneyworld 11-3 till 11-10, my question is..should I buy ponchos at my local Walmart for $4 each? wait till we're at Disney (price unknown) or not even bother.

I really would appreciate any advice on this hot topic.

    Thanks alot.

Depends on whether you like getting wet in the rain or not. If you think you'd use them if it did rain, I'd get the ones from Wal Mart. If you're like me, and unlikely to don a poncho even if it's pouring, then no. We bought the Wal Mart ones and my wife and kids used them - I just don't care if I get wet in the rain.

Weather-wise you may want to consider it, not for the rain, but for the temperature. There are a couple of very fun rides where you get wet (Kali River Rapids mainly, but this could apply to Splash Mountain as well). When I was there in January, it was probably about 50 degrees and people were still riding the Rapids by wearing the poncho to keep them dry. By the way, at that time the ponchos at Disney were in the $6-$8 range.

I'd probably not wear one either. It's just one more thing to carry. The only time I've been to WDW I didn't bother with one, though it was the middle of summer.

I would wait until you get to WDW. My husband and I were there last week and I bought a poncho at MGM while waiting for the 4:00pm pardade to begin. There was a downpour of rain which lasted about an hour, so I bought the poncho, claimed a bench to view the parade from and when the rain stopped, I was dry and had a fantastic view of the parade! Plus, the ponchos are only $6 (for adults) and they have the new "100 Years of Magic" logo on the back...which is pretty cool!
    Hope this helped!

It comes down to a couple of concerns :

    1. Do you want Mickey on your poncho and be a member of the Yellow Poncho Brigade? If so, wait until you get tot WDW.

    2. Do you have something to carry it around in or do you want to keep it with you all day? We don't, so it would end up in the locker...not much help when it rains.

We found some disney hooded nylon rain jackets that roll up small and come in a small bag with a hook. On days it could rain we bring those with us.

We're also going to be at Disney from 11/3 - 11/10 and we did buy our poncho's at Wal-Mart ($1.96 each). We (hubby & I) are taking our nephew (14), my mom (61 today), and mom in law (53) and we have made "DISNEY SURVIVAL BAGS" for each of them. In each one there is a rain poncho (3 different colors - 1 color for each). We figured mom's wouldn't want to be wet all day! Also the bags have disney t-shirts, picture frames, candies, key chains, pens, mickey head pencils, and my nephew has 3 disposable cameras to take pictures while we are there. Also - for each mom they get $25 disney dollars and nephew gets $50.

I know - I'm going on & on - BUT I AM IN SINGLE DIGITS FINALLY!!!!!

    Thanks for the understanding!

No, I don't think you will need a poncho. We were at WDW in Nov. 98 and Nov. 00. For each trip, it rained only one day the entire week we were there for about 30 minutes. While it was raining, we watched a show or went into a gift shop until the rain stopped. And we all know there are plenty of gift shops!

And, Ray, just where did you happen to find these wonderful jackets?

We got our ponchos on our first WDW trip, and saved them. Now each year we take them out and pack them for our next trip. They are good quality and have lasted several years for us. And we use them at least once each trip. We just throw them in our bag, along with our water bottles, snacks, sun tan lotion, etc... It's really nice to just whip them out IF it starts to rain. We don't miss a beat. (It's kinda cute to watch others scurry around to find shelter and quickly purchase the ponchos... )

We carried our own (from Walmart) and it rained on us Friday (Oct. 19) at MGM. We were very glad to have them and stay dry. Plus, not coming from WDW, they were not yellow and all we saw were seas of yellow ponchos! It would have been easy to get lost. And just for info, if you do want to buy them at WDW if it rains on you, kid size is $5 and adult $6. My 7 year old got one just as a souvenir. They have Micky on the back and the 100 year celebration logo!

We found them at WDW (don't remember which store a few years ago)...I just didn't want to carry ponchos around all day waiting for it to rain.

I always throw a few in for our trips just in case. We all have the regular heavy duty ones but find them bulky one they have been used. So I have a huge stock pile of the thin clear ones that are in really small packages that I picked up at Walmart (found them in the fishing section) for a $1 a piece. These can be disposable ones.

Our ponchos came in SO handy! And actually, I bought mine at a dollar store - 2 for $1! When it rained, were were able to keep on moving through the park when everyone else ran for cover! Time is everything!

Get the small, pocket-sized ponchos that cost about $1 before you go. Get your group one color (other than yellow), so you can spot each other in the sea of yellow that sprouts up when it rains.
