    Default POTC changes

So the we wants the redhead scene will be removed from the ride soon.

In light of this, I feel they should go ahead and bulldoze the attraction. What would make a good replacement in Adventureland?

I'm thinking a good food court?
Maybe a Moana attraction in the dark?

Well that has been put to bed. I don't think there can be a better idea. If we must say goodbye to a good classic, then new awesome is the way to go. Plus, everyone can ride! No cramming into a halfway motorcycle.

Here's the explanation of the redhead scene revision as posted by Disney on the Cast Member web site:

At Magic Kingdom park and Disneyland park, it’s a pirate’s life for a favorite redhead—beginning in 2018, after an already-planned refurbishment, the redhead is trading her fashionable bonnet for a pirate’s hat. Guests will now see her joining the pirates’ ranks and helping the locals “unload” their valuables at the Mercado auction.

Kathy Mangum, senior vice president, Atlantic Region Executive for Walt Disney Imagineering, said, “Our team thought long and hard about how best to update this scene. Given the redhead has long been a fan favorite, we wanted to keep her as a pivotal part of the story, so we made her a plundering pirate! We think this keeps to the original vision of the attraction as envisioned by Marc Davis, X Atencio and the other Disney Legends who first brought this classic to life.”

Really? This is actually happening? Unbelievable. Have we become so thin-skinned and politically correct that one of the most loved and iconic scenes in dark ride history needs to be "reworked & updated" so as not to offend anyone? I have just 2 more words on the subject:L

Wow. This is disappointing beyond belief. I think I'll make it a point to loudly exclaim that "We wants the redhead!" when riding this November.
    Nice work, pal.

    Yeap, tragic and horrible.

I think the Shanghai Pirates is a great idea. Rather than alter a classic, replace it was something totally different.

I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of UP adventure in its place.

Ever since they changed the scene of Pirates chasing women around to Pirates and women interchangeably chasing each other, I saw the handwriting on the wall. Let's be politically correct rather than historically accurate. BTW, does anyone remember when they changed this? I think it was about 15-20 years ago.

I saw this somewhere as well. We are talking about a ride about pirates. Although it is more family friendly than real pirates were, the current ride shows them pillaging and looting a town which is what they did.
It has been this way for many years and now it needs to be changed?
I guess it is like everything else, sanitize things so as to not offend.
They probably for some complaints from the same people that need safe spaces at schools and decided to change it based on the few rather than the many.
Have you ever looked beyond today, into the future?
Picturing a world, we've yet to see.
The wonder of finding new ways,
that lead to the promise of brighter days

Yeah, why I think like to think they should tear it down..

    But what should replace it?

This is completely unacceptable. POTC is one of Walt's ride ideas.
I was planning a Thanksgiving trip - but no more.
I am surprised that Carousel of Progress hasn't been cancelled - you know "too normal" of a family.

I'm looking forward to the update in 2019 where transgender pirates sit in a circle in their safe place and discuss implementation of the single-payer health care system they saw on Rachel Maddow.

It wouldn't, but I'm not convinced that Disney really cares about that any more.

It's a fascinating phenomenon that we accept as normal the social mores that exist in the world that we are born into. We then are generally okay with the evolution of social norms until up through sometime maybe in our teens. But boy once we hit about 25 or 30, any further evolution becomes ridiculous.

Times and attitudes change, folks. And if you don't change - and maybe you don't want to - you're eventually going to be just as cringey as my loving and well-meaning grandfather when he uses words for African Americans, homosexuals, and people from the mid-east that I'm guessing (hoping) none of us would use in mixed company.

We rarely are able to see ourselves become that dinosaur.

Wow, what a sad testiment in this thread to some mind sets.
Unless you've worked with a transgender child who has been disowned and/or forced to undergo "conversion" therapy, or have known someone in the gay community who has attempted suicide, and one friend who sadly succeeded. Unless you've worked with real victims of human trafficking [raises hand as I've done and or known all of the above],
Then I guess it's easy to whine and cry about it.

Guess I'm the 2% whiner who does not believe in fake news.
I do however believe in human diginity.
As much as I love POTC a couple of those scenes do need to change with the times.

Yes!! Many who don't like these changes should possibly live in those times. It's easy with all the progress we've made to say "oh those people whining about safe places and such..."
When they are afforded those rights themselves.
We've come so far, yet have so much farther to go.
I've lost too many friends and family because of archaic ideas.

That is one way to look at it, but if you pretend like the past never existed, you cannot learn from the mistakes your forefathers made. In this ride, the "bad" people are the ones doing the "bad" things which teaches that they are bad. Say for instance, if we erased all inkling that slavery existed, at some point in the future, someone will get the idea to do it again without the knowledge that it is "bad". "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." George Santayana

Even your statement shows things with "once we hit 25 or 30". I am well over 30 and I do not feel that further evolution in and of itself becomes ridiculous. Also, commenting on words being used in mixed company. If I don't feel comfortable saying something in front of someone, I wouldn't say it in private either.

Perhaps it isn't about being cringey. It may be about seeing things from a different perspective that may be just as valid.

So to keep on topic, and to keep mods happy, if POTC was to be removed, what would be good in its place?
