It's a bit late since we are fairly well into 2017, but wow...what a year Disney had at the movies! Disney's Buena Vista Studios not only had the top 5 films of 2016 whose tally is thus far $5.2B, but they also have total ticket sales of over $7.1B on just 13 films.

Sure there were some clunkers in there: Through the Looking Glass, The BFG and Pete's Dragon. Disney's record breaking take represents 25% of 2016 ticket sales. Each Disney film had average sales in excess of $540M. The next four biggest names had sales of $13.0B on 57 titles for an average take of just $228M each.

Disney is slated for just nine releases in 2017, but man what a line up! Between Beauty and the Beast, GOTG 2, Cars 3, another Thor movie, Coco and The Last Jedi it should be one heck of a year!

Old Walt might have fallen off his chair with a line up like this and success like Disney has seen over the last couple years. It's a testament to his great story telling.
