3/22/17 Rumours have started to circulate that Pandora will have at least two Annual Passholder previews prior to the announced Grand Opening. It is currently rumoured that the new land will hold a preview for a limited number of pre-registered Annual Passholders on April 8th and 9th, 2017.

Further previews or Public Previews (soft opening) have not been rumoured at this time, but still appear likely given past precedent.

If (when) there is a soft opening, how will that work? Does Disney announce it? Or do you just stumble upon it when you're in the park? I'm assuming FP will not be available during a soft opening. Any thoughts on experiences from past openings?

You would probably hear via social media if you follow enough Disney outlets. People will talk. Disney won't officially announce a soft opening but it is very likely that a lot of the month of May will be soft open.

And no, fastpasses usually aren't in effect during soft open.

Contrary to the Rumours earlier this week, Annual Passholder preview dates have been announced for much closer to the Grand Opening. The Passholder previews will be held May 13th through May 22nd, 2017 during a choice of 3 time slots, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm, or 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Annual Passholders have been sent e-mails with the information to register for the event, some details from the e-mail are below:

Please note: as this is an early exploration, access to specific activations and some areas of the Valley of Mo’ara within Pandora – The World of Avatar may be limited during your visit.

• All Guests must be Passholders in order to register for a time slot to preview Pandora – The World of Avatar.
• Guests may only register for one (1) time slot over the course of the preview period.
• If an Annual Passholder would like to register a Guest to accompany them, that Guest must also have a valid annual pass for admission to the event’s theme park location on the date of the event, be listed on your Family &
• Friends list and have opted to share “All My Plans” with you.
• Passholders with confirmed reservations will receive an additional email with details on how to check in for this experience, by May 12, 2017.
• All Guests must present their valid annual pass (or linked MagicBand), government issued ID and confirmation page to a Cast Member in order to enter Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park and Pandora – The World of Avatar on the date of your preview.
• Availability is subject to change without notice.
• Event is subject to cancellation in the event of inclement weather.
• Guests must meet appropriate boarding and height requirements for the attractions.
• Capacity is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Due to limited capacity, modifications to existing reservations will not be available.
• Limit one reservation per Passholder. Reservations are nontransferable and void if sold or otherwise transferred.

It is not yet clear if the Passholder previews being closer to the Grand Opening has precluded any Public Previews, but it has decreased the opportunity.

Two of the March 9th ABC specials gave a sneak peek into the ride vehicles for the Flight of Passage attraction in Pandora at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

As originally rumoured, it appears Guests will use futuristic technology to "link" to their Banshee and experience what it would be like to ride it through Pandora.

The quick glimpses below show a seated ride system and what could be next generation 3-D glasses:

It is not completely clear how this relates to the large theater and hydraulic lifts that were previously shown in sneak peek videos, however; this ride system could be mounted on the hydraulic lifts in front of the large screen.

As previously anticipated, The Walt Disney Company confirmed during their Q1 FY17 presentation that Pandora-World of Avatar will open May 27, 2017 at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Walt Disney Imagineering revealed more details and concept art today for the forthcoming Pandora-World of Avatar area at Disney's Animal Kingdom:

... at the D23’s Destination D: Amazing Adventures presentation, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek gave a construction update on Pandora – The World of Avatar and shared the exciting news that the new land is set to open at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Summer 2017.

... According to the storyline developed by Walt Disney Imagineering and Lightstorm Entertainment, this bridge was built during a time when a destructive company called the RDA came to Pandora. Now that they’re long gone, nature is breaking down evidence of their presence. This bridge will soon serve as an entry into the base camp of Alpha Centauri Expeditions, the eco-tour group that is preparing Pandora for future explorers and adventure seekers.

The entire Pandora – The World of Avatar land is set to open in 2017, and will transport guests to a visually stunning world complete with floating mountains and bioluminescent plants. Here, guests will be able to experience two excursions that will truly push adventure to the next level.
