Vacation Insurance
We've always added the trip insurance onto our package but have never used it. To add it to our trip would be another $200 plus. Does anyone else get this insurance and of those of you who did, have any of you ever had to use it? If so, what did it cover and how well did it pay?

I have gotten the insurance, but only for cruising. However, I get mine from a third party vendor, not through Disney. I have never had to use it, but I do know of people who HAVE had to use it, and have been glad they have gotten it, but again, this was only for cruising.

I typically have not gotten insurance for room only trips. For cruises and for package trips, I have gotten insurance. I have also purchased insurance annually to cover my trips using Disney Vacation Club points.

We go through Magical Journeys and get insurance through them. It was $155 for the two of us (husband and I). We have never had to use it but we always get it anytime we are flying somewhere for a vacation.

okay thanks, we won't be flying we are driving. I guess we'll go ahead and do it, it just seems a waste but I guess if something happened I'll be grateful.

I used it once when I had to have back surgery unexpectedly. I was so sad to cancel the trip, but so glad we had the insurance. We ended up being out a couple of hundred bucks instead of substantially more. If you bring an umbrella, you'll have blue skies.

Not me, but my parents had to use it this past January. They were stuck (ha ha, I would love that problem) in Florida while the NE was having a blizzard. They had to stay an extra 3 days, the extra cost for a rental car, hotel, and food was covered. They ended up getting a check for over $1000. They did have to show proof that their flight home was cancelled in order for the insurance company to pay out, but it was totally worth the extra hundred or so dollars.

I have been buying insurance for a few years now that I have elder parents. I've not had to use it for health reasons but because of the weather. We were in Myrtle Beach when hurricane Sandy hit the northeast. We were "stuck" there for five extra days. It was reassuring to know we would get reimbursed for all the extra expenses.

I usually buy it for Cruises. On my last Cruise I lost an mp3 player and was able to claim that loss.

You might want to look into what travel insurance your credit card provides.

I didn't think about it covering extra days due to weather, my mother and I aren't spring chickens so I'm thinking it might be a good idea to get it anyway

Never get the insurance, even for cruises. My premium credit card has excellent travel cancellation. Plus our home insurance has a rider. This would cover off shortfalls in the card coverage. Saved us a bundle over the years even with the card fees.
