Touring Plans - Good or bad?

Wondering what everyone thinks....

Are touring plans a good or a bad idea?

I have come to think of touring plans as "Commando" and would rather immerse myself and go with the flow. That said, I am actually a FP+ fan, and enjoy knowing that certain FPs are already in the bag. So, even though I might not have a touring plan per se, I tend to plan around my FPs.

My first few visits I loved touring plans and was very structured and "Commando" for sure. Not knowing when I'd be back, I wanted to make sure we experienced as much as possible. In future visits, it's been more laid back. Always the key rides and favorites, usually with FP+, but much more go with the flow. Slow down a bit and enjoy.

Both approaches were good for me. Each person has their own level of planning. Hard to really suggest a "best approach" without really knowing the leader and the group.

I use a "casual" touring plan. I have a general idea of what we're doing, but don't plan things down to the minute or even for the entire day. For our upcoming trip our plan looks like this:

Monday: arrive around noon; settle in at resort; head to EP for dinner and to use 3 FP's.

Tuesday: Rope drop at MK-- head to Frontierland. FP's scheduled for late morning/early afternoon. Lunch at BOG. Break at the resort for a few hours in the afternoon. Decide where to have dinner during afternoon break. Head to dinner and then back to MK for a few hours in the evening. Maybe stay for Wishes, maybe not.

Wednesday: Rope drop at EP. FP's for late morning/early afternoon. Stay until late afternoon. Back to hotel for break. Dinner at CRT that evening. Evening EMH at MK after dinner for those who want to stay.

Thursday: Sleep in. Do some resort hopping and eat lunch at one of the resorts. Late afternoon/early evening FP's at EP. Illuminations Cruise that evening.

Friday: Rope drop at AK. FP's for late morning/early afternoon. Stay until we're finished with what we feel like doing for the day. Back to resort or somewhere for dinner. Evening is open. Maybe go to DHS for Fantasmic or Star Wars Fireworks. (The plan for this day could change if Rivers of Light is running when we go. Then we'll probably do rope drop at AK; take a break in the early afternoon; schedule FP's for late afternoon and stay for the night time attractions).

Saturday: Rope drop at DHS. FP's for late morning/early afternoon. Stay until we're finished OR take a break in the afternoon and head back in the evening for fireworks.

Sunday: Sleep in. Early lunch at DTD/DS. Shopping. Back to resort to do some packing. FP's scheduled at MK for early evening (but these could be changed to a different park based on what we get done earlier in the trip).

Monday: Head home

So...we have a rough idea of what we're doing most days, but there's a lot of flexibility.

Agreed. I think it's important to make fastpass reservations for your must sees and to have an idea of what other attractions will be high priorities for your group, but I wouldn't map out each attraction in a specified order. You will have to leave room for flexibility and for me, having a strict schedule just leads to more stress.
