    Unhappy Japan Teppan changes

Japan has always been a must-do for us as we loved the food at the Teppan Edo dinner experience.

This time we were disappointed to discover that they have changed the meals. There is no longer any mustard dipping sauce, it has been changed to a teriyaki sauce and that the base of the meal is a large udon noodle with carrots and cabbage. The food was less seasoned than we have had in the past as well. The teppan chefs are still very entertaining, but for us unfortunately it did not make up for the food. When we inquired about it, the CM told us that they had recently refreshed the menus.

It was an expensive and bland meal that, sadly, has taken Teppan Edo off our must-do list.

We weren't impressed last time we ate their either. We are giving Tokyo dining a shot this time and are hoping for a better experience!

I'm glad I saw your post before we went to WDW on 11/30-12/10. We changed our Teppan Edo ressie to Captain's Grill. It was the last night of our trip, and we stayed at the Yacht Club, so we figured it would be a nice, relaxing last dinner.

The food was fantastic, as was the service. We were really impressed. I had some of the best crab cakes I've EVER had! We will definitely do dinner here again.

We've always loved breakfast here as well!

The Teppan Edo place used to be closer to 'American Chinese' flavoring than to actual Japanese. A tad "heavier" and stronger flavorings. Catering to the expected audience, I'd guess.

Tokyo Dining is closer to actual Japanese tastes. More subtle, letting the core food flavor drive the taste.

I'm so sorry to hear that! Are there any Japanese Hibachi places near where you live? I find that you get a much better deal at the hibachi places at home. If you have a car and are willing to go off property, I heard there's some really good hibachi places on the Orlando strip. I've heard the names "Kobe" or "Benihana" recommended for hibachi on International Drive. Much cheaper and more food. If all else fails, maybe give Teppan Edo one more try and ask them to season your food more? I'm sure Disney would be more than happy to accommodate you.
