    Wink WDW vaca during construction?

I was just wondering how other folks are feeling about this ~ Are you adjusting vacation plans to WDW due to construction?

I've seen a lot of posts about folks taking a break from WDW during the MAJOR construction of the next year (or two). I know that we are not planning on returning before late 2017, possibly 2018, so that the major stuff has been completed and the bugs worked out a bit.

Has all the planned construction updates impacted your WDW plans?

Yeah, us too. We have Disneyland locally so we are just going to stick with that for the next couple years. Maybe 2017 or 2018 we will return to WDW.

We tend to visit about every two to three years with us headed more to every other year lately. We just took the kids this past April so 2017 seems likely. Hopefully some of the new attractions will be open then? Until then...maybe a cruise?

Can't imagine going 3 years without going and really, it will be mostly focused in one park - so you'll be able to plan around it. With a multi day hopper, there is still a ton to do.

Now, that said - if you'd never been or haven't visited in a while, it might be a great time to get your Disney fix by heading to the left coast.

We just decided to take a trip this coming January! We haven't been in almost 6 years (which is a record for me!), and we wanted to take advantage of the deep discounts they released for early 2016. We figure that since prices have been increasing steeply over the past few years, we will soon be priced out and want to take our kids for their first trip sooner rather than later. The construction doesn't bother me; I know we'll have a great time despite it, because we're looking forward to seeing our kids' reactions to everything.

Soarin' to tower: We are ready for takeoff!

The only factor that ever affects the timing of our WDW vacations is our family's availability to travel due to work and school schedules. We decide when we can afford a trip, and then the timing of that trip is determined by when we can go, not by what may or may not be open, under construction, etc. at WDW. We just don't have the luxury of being able to go whenever we want to. There have been times when one of our favorites has not been open due to a refurb, or we had to see construction walls etc. but we have never let that put a damper on our fun at WDW. There is always plenty to do, see and experience. If you could only visit once in your life, and you had the luxury of being able to plan when you wanted to visit, then I could see planning to go only when everything was open and nothing was under construction. I don't know if that is ever the case at WDW.

Remember the good ol' days when we didn't have four parks and still had fun! There's never a shortage of things to do and new experiences to try at Disney. Does anyone think they've every done it all?

Our change in plans is due primarily to the change in family dynamics. My oldest began college last year and my girls may start next year. Prior to that I homeschooled all of them so we were extremely flexible with the schedule. My youngest loves Disney as much as I do so he and I could always do short trips here and there. After our November trip, our week-long trips will come to a halt for the time being. Having said that, construction wouldn't necessarily change our visiting habits, but I don't mind a decrease in frequency at this time because of it.

We go for the F&W festival. So, regardless, if the FW is on, we'll go. That being said, the might let it control where we go. I don't see us hitting DHS anytime soon (unless to catch something we think might go like Little Mermaid or Indy). But other than that. With big construction, probably will use our DHS/AK days, and go to Sea World or maybe Universal/IOA. Or spend extra time at the resort/hotel.

But wouldn't control the whole trip of whether we go or not.

Actually, I'm trying to remember a time over the last several years when there wasn't construction going on someplace. There was the expanded Fantasyland; all the construction at Downtown Disney (Now Downtown Springs); all the construction at the Polynesian; all the construction in the Hub of the Magic Kingdom - I'm sure I must be forgetting something!!

So...bottom line...ongoing construction won't dictate when we plan to return to Disney World. We'll just work around whatever is going on.
