We had an excellent captain and we were 7 guests. We were almost late arriving to the dock. He was extra nice to my four who were at the time pre-teens.
I must be cheep. You pay a premium for the cruise. I have gone on a fireworks cruise before and did not leave a 20% tip. We did leave, I feel, a generous a tip. The cruise is approximately 1 hour in length.
We have a Wishes cruise booked for this December. The cruise is almost $350. I think $70 which is 20% is kind of high for 1 hour.
Just my opinion.

The original cost or length of the service (whether dining, spa, salon services, cruise, etc.) shouldn't impact the percentage tip you leave. That's kind of like saying I shouldn't tip the standard 20-25% (sometimes more) at V&A because my meal is already over $600 without it. When I go to my salon, I don't tip a smaller percentage for a 1 hour haircut versus a 4 hour color session.
Not trying to be rude, but it's just how it is. If you don't want to give a decent or proper gratuity, don't do the event.
