Default Disney buys more land near Disneyland

The OC Register recently reported that Disneyland Resort has acquired 1515 and 1585 South Manchester Avenue for the purchase price of $48 million.

The 158,708-square-foot building on the land will be used for office and warehouse support for the two Anaheim theme parks, hotels and entertainment venues, according to the Anaheim Planning Department. The property is along the south side of the I-5 freeway, near South Clementine Street. It borders the Pumbaa parking lot.

Disney also purchased the Carousel Inn, in April this year, and that section could act as a corridor to connect the two properties.

It's speculated that by moving the office and warehouse buildings over to the new area this will free up space for new planned attractions within the park boundries.

Peter Sciretta has photoshopped this image to show these 2 new properties in red and purple.

That is interesting about the Carousel Inn. I never thought I'd see Disney get there hands on any of those hotels lining Harbor Blvd.

I thought that would be the location of the new parking structure. Where else could they build that? That is one of the components that Disney must address, preferably sooner rather than later. Parking is a very big problem right now.

There is talk that a new parking structure will be replacing the Pumbaa parking lot. Pedestrians would then have to cross Harbor, hopefully with a tunnel or bridge. I'm sure we'll get some sort of announcement at D23 later this month.

I was surprised that Carousel Inn sold out as well.. but Disney paid $32 million, that would have been hard to turn down for any Inn keeper.

That makes sense Patricia. Although I would expect there would be a tram to drive guests to the drop off zone at the esplanade. That is quite a distance to walk.

I've read several different theories about this. But what seems to be a standard thought is that there will be a parking garage built. Also, many of the backstage areas will be moved from behind the park to newly purchased area. Then Toontown would be closed and a new area, perhaps a Star Wars land would be build in the back of the park, extending into the area that was once backstage.

Disney has promised Anaheim there would be an expansion of Disneyland so this may be the way they are trying to complete this.
