    Default Okw

I wasn't sure whether to post this question in the Vacation Club thread or here. We switched over to OKW for our October trip since there will be 7 of us. Does anyone know if there is an internal transportation system in place? My Dad has had both hips replaced and trying to keep walking to a minimum. Crazy concept at WDW I know! We do plan on spending time at the main pool. We are flying in and using ME so we won't have a car. Wanting to use the boat to DTD as well. Any ideas, advise or praise for OKW would be appreciated. We are excited to be staying at a new location.

Yes, there are several bus stops within the Old Key West resort so you can get from one place to other internally by using the bus system.

Are you getting a two bedroom? The two bedrooms here are huge!! There is also a large patio with the two bedroom which includes another full size dining table.

Please make sure to request a first floor, as its a huge complex and only three Bldgs have elevators. buildings have two to three floors...upper floors require climbing stairs. Love OKW, but we always request top floor, love the balconies.

Totally agree - if you have someone in your party who might need extra time walking, it's not good to have them climbing steps to get to the room on the 2nd or 3rd floor. A lack of elevators was definitely a big miss for the OKW location. Hopefully, you can get a first floor room.

Thanks for the heads up with the stairs. I did not put in any request..all the locations look beautiful. If I tell them for medical reasons that first floor or elevator building would be optional do you think that would help with getting one of those? We are in a two bedroom villa.

Call and have them add the request for ground floor (or the need to be close to an elevator) to your reservation. Mention that it is for medical reasons. They won't guarantee it, but my sources have always told me that medical needs take precedence over other requests. DW has had multiple back surgeries and stairs are difficult. We've always had a ground floor request honored if we've had it noted on the reservation.

The rooms as OKW are the largest of all the DVC resorts. You can also park right next to your building. Most of the other DVC resorts require you to park quite a distance from your room (with the exception of SSR).

I would recommend getting a room near the main building. I would request building 11, 12, 13, or 14. Two weeks before your arrival, type a letter with you request and reasons and fax it directly to the front desk of the resort. You can get the information right here on Intercot.

I have done this many times for certain requests due to a medical condition. I have never had my requests denied.

And about 40 more in between....

Hospitality House is a separate booking category (no extra points). Request first floor, we always do for the same reason, and have always had our request honored. There are internal buses and every bus' last stop before leaving the resort is the Hospitality House. The launch to Downtown Disney is very convenient and enjoyable.
