Default How awful is August ?

There is a nice preschool package offer for August and we are still trying to pull together a trip to Disney this year. We probably be goin out in the mornings and evenings and would try to get bakc to the hotel for the worst heat of the day and to give my 3 year old a break in the day. Mainly wondering how bad are the crowds? It's very affordable but the month is less than ideal for heat and humidity. I've always gone in the fall, but September can be really hot too, wondering if there's really that much difference... Any advice appreciated!

August often feels about the same as September. However, there are times when August is noticeably hotter and more humid than September is. We've found the crowds to be mostly manageable (though you might find the pools to be pretty crowded). You do need to take it more slowly - particularly with a little one. Make sure everyone stays hydrated and do take those mid-day breaks.

We're going in July for a quick trip, and I too am really worried about the heat/humidity. We aren't planning on doing any parks, and I'm hoping the pool area isn't too crazy all the time. I hope its not going to be unbearable!

We were just there this past August for the first time. We went for the last week. Crowds were great. Very manageable. The heat was brutal. We happened to hit a heat wave where every day was 97-98 degrees PLUS humidity. BUT, we were very prepared. We had a plan, cooling towels, took afternoon breaks, drank plenty of water and didn't rush to do EVERYTHING. We actually loved it and plan on going back in August 2016. If you are accustomed to humid summers, you will be fine. Just be prepared and tour accordingly. Be out of the parks roughly between noon and 5 or so and you will be fine…both temperature and crowd-wise.

We go in August also. Last year, the first two days we were there it was about 100 degrees with humidity. We managed by going to rides that were indoors or had indoor waiting areas. Also went back to the resort and hit the pool. I try to make dinner reservations around 5 so that we have the rest of the evening in the parks. Seems to work well for us. We've also gone the beginning of September and it was still brutally hot and humid. If I had a choice, I would go middle to end of October.

The other responders are right. The closer you go to the end of August, the better! As you noted, it's best to avoid mid-day in the parks. However the lighter lines are a great trade off. Good luck!

A few years we went in mid August. It was OK crowd wise, but it poured every day...sometimes only an hour or so, other days all afternoon and Into the night. Only got to swim at AKL once in the five days we were there. We get one picture and that year it's taken in the rain with our ponchos on.

August isn't horrible. We've been a bunch of times, and you do have to be smart about the heat and humidity, but otherwise, it is a great time.

Our advice, enjoy air conditioning whenever you can. Walk through stores, alternate outside attractions with indoor shows, etc. It really makes a big difference in how you feel. We love the free ice water, and drink as much as we can.

We did find it challenging to do the "mid-day" swim break, since it was so often thunder storming in the afternoon, so that is something to think about as well. It WILL rain, just not for too long.
