My family always goes in September (we'll be there this year from 9/12-9/26). It is hot and humid and expect rain. For us, the best way to deal with it is to enjoy the parks in the morning, take an afternoon break at the hotel to enjoy the pool then head back to the parks in the evening. Always bring your poncho - even if it looks like a nice day. We tend to wear shorts/t-shirts and flip flops. I do bring a light sweater when we go to restaurants though, as the AC can be a little too cold.

September can be almost as humid as mid summer and is quite prone to mid day showers. You shouldn't have much need for long pants, but I would bring a poncho, rain jacket and extra socks. Definitely some sort of water proof sandal, like crocs or tevas

It will be warm and to some hot. Humidity is always high in summer. I spent 2 years in Honduras in the Air Force. Florida is a piece of cake compared to that heat. So I have no issues with Florida weather.....Its always hotter some where else.
Don't worry, It won't be a big deal. Plenty of places to cool off if needed. Water fountains will be your friend. And,they are free.

We used to go in September years ago (when they had insane room deals). Probably did 3 trips or so.
We always had pretty hot and humid weather. Not much rain though. Some showers here and there, maybe an all-day rain (not really heavy, but there), but more dry than wet. Had plenty of high 80's - mid 90's days.

We have been several times in September. It is the best time to go as far as crowds. It is extremely hot and humid. Did have daily thunderstorms, but not all day rain. We stopped going in September pretty much because it's too hot.

There are some really good posts here with great advice. You can buy ponchos at the Disney parks at pretty much any store, but they come out by the groves once the rain starts falling. Their ponchos are not as heavy as a rain coat so you can hang them on a belt, fanny pack or purse strap or fold them up pretty small and shove them in a back pack fairly easily. They also open completely flat once you unsnap ALL the snaps so they can be used to sit on, cover up with, hold over your head, cover a stroller (there's even a breathing hole..lol) and cover working parts or seats of mobility carts or strollers so that they are dry upon returning from your ride, meal, show or shopping adventure.
DO make sure to drink LOTS of water. We have seen countless folks in the bathrooms that were almost down for the count because they did not do this.
I personally do not recommend drinking Disney's fountain water as we have had several out of town family members get sick from it. Florida has pretty nasty water and though Disney does filter theirs, it has made folks sick from time to time and during the hot season you need to drink LOTS, so be careful.
All food and drink stations that have drinks served from a fountain usually will give you a glass of water or fill your cup free if asked.
If it gets really hot don't be afraid to pour some water over your head, little one's heads etc.
If there is an emergency and someone is looking overly heated, feeling ill, nauseated, faint.. etc. Please do not hesitate to talk to a staff member or go to the first aid station for help. Heat exhaust is real and it can ruin a trip very quickly.
If you have folks in your party that burn instead of tan, please use suntan lotion, including feet that are in sandals or flip flops. Even if it is cloudy, in Florida you CAN and WILL Burn. Again, we have had this happen to out of town family and it is not pleasant.
If you have a family member with burn, a small tip from this Past Florida dweller, slather noxema all over your red skin. This removes the heat and sting from the burn, then use your aloe and or favorite lotion.
Be careful and have fun!!!

Three tips....
1) Ponchos - You're going to get wet so buy ponchos before you go and keep them in your bag.
2) Travel Insurance - If you didn't get it when you booked your trip contact Disney travel or your agent that booked the trip and get it. That is prime Hurricane season and would hate for you to loose your $$$ if one does hit during that week.
3) Good attitude - You're going to be HOT and WET a lot so just prepare yourself and go in with it doesn't matter attitude and enjoy being there with your family
Oh and there is a weather website that you can go and pull up previous years weather history by year, month and week and that will give you a pretty good indication of what to expect for that week if you look at 5 or 6 years and average the temps and rain fall. It is VERY detailed.
It is called wunderground.com go there and pick Orlando then the date range you wish to see.
I use it every trip just to give me an idea of what to expect.
Hope this helps!
