Default POTC 4 Month Refurb Starting in May

It was announced today that POTC will close on May 11 and be closed until at least September 25 with the anticipated opening date of Sept 26. There is a possibility of the refurb being extended depending on how things progress, but that's the plan for now.

Thanks for sharing ... I'll have to prepare DH, he loves this ride, but it does need some love.

It is necessary. I didn't even go on Pirates once on my last trip because I was too afraid of getting wet (it was only in the mid-60's during my trip). Hopefully the upgrades will be worth the wait!!

Suits get their way again. Instead of listening to Imagineers and doing it right, go for the quick fix and ignore the underlying problems that, if fixed properly, would make the experience as magical as people expect from Disney.

Four months for a ride which needs six months or more... I don't feel very confident about this refurb...

Wait, wasn't POTC just rehabbed for the movie tie in? It wasn't too long ago they added mermaids, no?

What's wrong with it now? Just broken effects? If that's the case, you would expect rides like Everest, Dinosaur, Great Movie Ride would be higher on the list. What am I missing?

On what do you base the need for six months?

What do I base it on? Facts... Facts that people who know what is wrong with the ride and needs refurbishing stated they needed six to nine months to fix the attraction... Phil Holmes pushed for four months...

That is what I base it on, information from people who actually know what needs to be done...

I think the mermaids were added back in October of 2012.

I'm just glad they are waiting until the Jungle Cruise comes back up before they shut Pirates down for its refurb. I don't think I could have handled both JC and PotC down for my trip!

(Playing a little bit of Devil's Advocate here. I would do what was necessary if both were down. I realize that refurbs happen and I can't control what attractions go down or when.)

Yeah, when I was there a few weeks ago the day before I noticed the ride was "temporarily closed" on the app most of the day. Then the day I was there it was off and on again. I was in line when it was shut down and was given a free fastpass for it. Any attraction that has this many issues has to be in for major repairs.

We will be there 9/17 - 9/28. I guess there's a chance we get to ride it.

Since we now book FastPasses 60 days out, what happens if we FastPass+ it for one of the open days and the refurb goes longer? Do we get another FP?

Yes. MDE will automatically cancel the POTC FP and will notify you. You can then make another selection.

You'll get an email. Usually they offer you another fastpass from a list of their choosing. However, sometimes they randomly assign one - then you can switch it yourself.

Fortunately we plan on being there before the 11th, so we should sneak it in under the wire. Although goodness knows if it will actually be open at all while we're there.

As a fairly regular visitor to Disneyland, I don't care if the WDW version is ever closed, to be honest. I know that's neither here nor there for those who love it at WDW, but for me personally, I won't miss it. Too bad they don't have room and can't close it for a long period to make it as awesome as Disneyland.
