    Default Port Orleans riverboat transportation?

My DH and I have first-night reservations in DTD. I have heard you can take the boat from Port Orleans resort down the Sassagoula to DTD. We would love to try this as an alternate to driving and would like walking around the resort (since we have never seen it). My question is-since we are not staying at that resort-are we able to go on the property and ride to DTD?

Should not be a problem. The only time that they ever checked me was at DTD closing and there was a huge line

    Thanks

I've seen it suggested by Disney (somewhere, but can't remember exactly where) that because of the construction at DTD it's best right now to take Disney Transportation instead of driving. Parking is very limited.

    The boat ride is lovely.

The new parking garage just opened on the 20th so parking should not be such a problem anymore.

Just be aware, that while the boat is very relaxing, it is NOT a quick trip. You do need to plan accordingly. Depening on timing, you could find a lot of people have the same idea and end up waiting for several boats before you get on. At 10 min (or longer) between boats you can easily wait 30 min before leaving the dock. The trip itself is at least 20 min.

If you're in a hurry to get to DTD, this isn't the wisest of choices. This mode of transportation is definitely in the "enjoy the journey" category.

Going back from DTD can be a very long wait, particularly late in the evening. In October, one night the wait to go back was over an hour. We
hopped on a bus and were at FQ in 20 min.

Thanks for the information! We plan to arrive in the afternoon and pretty much head straight over to POR so we have time to tour the grounds. I will definitely add in the boat travel time so we aren't late! (and I'll let DH know that we may have to wait on a boat on the way back, so he doesn't get annoyed with waiting
