Question Is Memory Maker Worth It???

I can't decide if I want to add Memory Maker to our upcoming trip. I have read where people have had dozens or even hundreds of photos taken....but are they all pretty much the same "family in front of the park icon" shots??

Don't get me wrong - I want that perfectly posed picture in front of the Castle but I am more excited about the unexpected candid shots.

How much photo variety do you actually get? Thanks in advance for your responses.

If you get the right photographer you can get all sorts of fun shots. When we were there celebrating my DD graduation from high school we had 2 great photographers. One in Magic Kingdom in Frontierland who stayed with us for 2 hours doing lots of fun shots as we rode rides, did silly poses and he also posed us in places I never who have thought of. The other was in Hollywood Studios. She was great and did some fun poses near the Sorcerers Hat and surronding areas. I came home with over 400 fun pictures. We will use them again!

It's a personal decision. I think it is probably more worthwhile for a larger group where you are apt to get more pictures. Also, for families with younger children where part of your experience will be visiting with the characters.

I used the old photopass system a few times but, when it is just my husband and myself, it is sometimes difficult to get enough photos to justify the cost. We would often stop for characters but, in my last few trips, I've noticed the character lines seem quite a bit longer - certainly longer than 2 adults would typically want to wait. Plus, characters are now often "hidden" away in character greeting locations rather than out in the parks.

We haven't used the new version of photopass since they've increased the cost - I think that, along with the other factors noted above, tipped the balance for me.

If you have children and will be doing Character meets and any Character dining it is definitely worth it. On our last trip it was my girls' first time going to Disney so we had to stop and meet the majority of the Characters. Plus I scheduled several Character meals. The pics they try to sell you at those meals are outrageous but a lot of them are included with the price you pay for the Memory Maker/PhotoPass+ (or at least they were when we went.) Also when we went there were also ride photos that were available. We also got tons of pictures from Bippity Boppity Boutique while our girls were getting their makeovers. It was definitely worth it for us.

I was there two weeks ago and had the Memory Maker. Just some info on how it broke down for me and my two kids.

If you are going to get the memory maker, be sure to purchase before you leave. I saved $50 by buying early so my total cost was $150.

We would stop by some but not all of the photopass photographers. When we did stop, we would ask if they could do any special effects (some could, some could not). After your picture, the photographer scans your magic band and off you go. Attractions that offer pics for sale of the ride are automatically added to your account. Restaurants that offer pictures are included - you just scan your band again. Any Character meet and greet pictures are included too (scan your band - see the trend ).

When we got home, there were 168 pictures in our account (for 8 days in the parks). Of those pictures you can select different picture sizes, zoom in or out, add effects, add banners etc. and make copies of the updates. By adding copies with updates, my account now has over 250 pictures. The math for the "raw" pictures is about a $1 per picture and about $.60 with the effects. You also get a 30 second movie clip on ToT, 7DMT and we had a surprise movie with Mike Wozowski in front of SE.

So as said, it is a personal decision on if you need this or not. I am thrilled with the Memory Maker because I wouldn't have been in any pictures without it, but also it made sense for my family of 3.

One last thing - you have to make your updates and download your pics before your account expires - about a month.

    Hope that helps.

We used it just last week and I was so surprised to see the videos of TOT and 7DMT! I thought that was so cool! Plus there were pictures from the 7DMT ride which I didn't see a location to preview them or buy them from on the ride like you usually would for a picture ride. I was really surprised when they showed up, but happy they were there.
