    Thumbs up Gift Receipts!

Seems like only yesterday I was asking for advice on baby "stuff!" Last weekend was my baby shower (our baby girl is due mid-December). I am so appreciative of everything. The shower was beautiful and I feel incredibly lucky. That being said, I was surprised at the number of people who did not provide gift receipts. I thought this was pretty much the norm these days. I know I got many more gift receipts with my bridal shower. We didn't have to return too many items- about 15 odds and ends. We got way too many bibs and sippy cups, and DH decided he didn't want any teethers made in China. We took our bag of no-receipt items to the place where we were registered, and only 4 items were from that store. We then ended up going on a scavenger hunt because everything had the tags/stickers removed. Were able to return all but 2 items but we had to go to 6 stores, and were only able to get store credit at all of them. I'm not complaining- it was an interesting day to say the least! But I thought I'd share my tale to emphasize how much easier life is when you give a gift receipt, or at least leave a portion of the tag indicating where it was purchased. You never know if someone is going to get a double of what you purchased, or if it's something just not aligned with their tastes (even though we all like to think our taste is impeccable).

Congrats on your soon to be pink bundle of joy.
Very strange that you received so many items without gift receipts. Glad you were at least able to get store credit on some of the gifts.

Gift receipts are a great thing! Maybe the ego takes over and people can't imagine you would ever ponder returning their precious thing, just everyone else's. I'm not sure you can ever have enough bibs, though. Teething babies drool. Some quite a lot. My son would get a little chest rash if I didn't keep him covered from all the drool. But I'm sure your baby girl will be much more delicate about it. My daughter didn't seem to drool as much as my son did. Anyway...

Good tip. I'll make sure to remember to always give gift receipts. Not long now, wow. Might feel longer to you. What an exciting time for you! Getting and giving baby stuff is so fun.

So I have heard, but we really did get soooo many. We took back a set of 10 and a set of 4. We still have about 20, and that doesn't even include the ones that came with matching layette sets, the ones that double as burp cloths and then the plastic ones with the little pouches for when she starts eating real food! Like I said, we were really lucky. This little lady won't want for anything.

Funny you should mention this! We just bought a baby shower gift. We ordered it online and it was only while I was wrapping it that I realized it didn't come with a gift receipt. I do have the regular receipt of course, and will make sure she knows that I will get it to her if she needs to return it for any reason. But, it made me wonder if a lot of your guests ordered the gifts online and that's why there wasn't a gift receipt? Just a guess.

No such thing as too many sippy cups OR bibs. Bibs especially...they don't hold up as long as you would think.

I agree with those that say there's no such thing as too many bibs and/or sippy cups. You'd be amazed how quickly those things wear out, get gross, or just plain vanish.

I think you'll do just fine with 20 bibs. I can't believe how excited I'm getting for you, Maryanne. It still seems like it was just yesterday that you were telling us you were engaged, becoming a teacher and getting married. I know it has been years in the happening but it still seems to me that the time has just flown.

    Aww, that's so sweet Kay

VBs-Interesting point about the online thing- although I think most that ordered online did so off of my amazon registry, in which case returns are quite simple. I didn't need to return anything from there, though. The only place we couldn't get store credit was Children's Place. There was a onesie that just wasn't our style, but without a receipt, they will only exchange for another size.

And I'll be sure to report back in a year if the 20+ bibs and 6 sippy cups that we kept don't do the trick so you all can say told you so.

    Congratulations PirateLover!!!

You can never have too many bibs!!! That is the truth!!

I always gift receipt. I feel like if I spent the money and there is a duplicate gift, at least go and get what I paid for it towards something else.

God Bless! Enjoy this very special time!

Congrats on your future little princess! I agree, you can never have enough bibs or sippy cups! I always try to give a gift receipt but this thread just made me realize that I recently bought a bridal shower gift online that did not come with a gift receipt. I'm hope that since it came from her registry, if she needed to return it, she easily could. A gift receipt should be an option for an online gift as well.

Definitely shouldn't be a problem if it was off of a registry.
