BC-Am I missing something/overthinking?

So we're heading down in November for the W&D Half Marathon. We originally booked the BC for 11/6 through 11/10 and got the runDisney rate. We decided this week to add another day on the end so now we're checking out of BC on 11/11.

When I called to add the extra day, the CM told me that the runDisney rooms were all booked, so we would have to take the rack rate (or switch to the Poly) for the last night- not a big deal to us. And there was no way we were switching to the Poly with everything going on over there.

Here's the part I'm probably overthinking- the CM said that they could not just add on the extra day for us. We had to start a separate reservation all together for the last night. The CM was really nice and said it was "highly, highly unlikely" that we would have to switch rooms for our last night.

Does it make sense that we now have 2 reservations for the same BC stay, even though all I did was add one more night at the rack rate? (One for 11/6 to 11/10 and the second for just 11/11)

Assuming that 2 reservations are correct, is there anything we need to be careful of in terms of planning? (Especially in terms of magic bands, etc.)

I'd appreciate any thoughts you guys might have!

I have ran into the same problem a couple of times trying to add a day on the front of a reservation as well as the end. It is apparently a stupid limitation within their booking system. Every time I have had this problem and they couldn't work around it or fix it, I told them to just forget it and I would just go offsite to a Hilton or Embassy Suites. It ended up costing them because we ended up finding some very nice offsite hotels we enjoyed staying at and haven't stayed onsite in about 4 years now.

I am fairly certain it is an intentional limitation in their system because they know that a certain percentage of people add on days and they can hit them for full rack rate rather than extending their package price. It is a profit generator for them because I would assume most just pay the rack rate and don't move offsite like I will.

I think you are right that it's an intentional limitation. I stayed once a few years ago during the buy 4, get 3 free promo. I added another day that wound up costing as much as the other 7 combined.

Since the runDisney rate was not available she would have to make a separate reservation for the one night. I would call back and make sure that she linked them to increase your chance of staying in the same room and remind them at check-in.

You will get to customize two sets of bands but they will be interchangeable. You can get two different colors and color coordinate if you want.

Your tickets, room, charging privileges, etc will be linked through MDE not the band itself so either one will work.

Yep that's how it's done. They'll try to keep you in the same room.

Thanks everyone! This makes a lot more sense now. As an added bonus, I called and got the fall promo rate, so now the last night I added is within $15 of the runDisney rate!!!!
