Anybody else still watching this show? I am finding it especially touching this final season, given some of the theories out there about the storyline and how it ends. A clever, well-written series--I'll miss it.

I never even thought about the fact that it might have a sad ending. I'm hoping that they don't try to be so dramatic that they lose the formula that has worked all these seasons.

Based on the last couple of shows, I do think that something sad is going on with the mom, like maybe she has been diagnosed with cancer and is having surgery, but I hope it isn't as dire as some other people are saying. I have a hard time believing that the writers would put viewers through this journey just to have a sad ending.

I've heard them too and I hope not. To me it would really ruin the whole show.
If it's done well, it wouldn't ruin it for me but... well, it would be a colossal downer after investing in the story all these years. Is it grief that turned Ted into Bob Saget? We'll have to wait and find out.

Maybe that's the twist. The mother wakes up in bed with Bob.
And yeah a colossal downer is probably more accurate than ruined since the series has always been more about more than the mother.
