    Default Poly Atrium Being Removed

Who doesn't love the smell of that water? Or the beautiful flowers?

Welll say goodbye because the entire centerpiece of the main lobby is being removed. The purpose is so ppl will see the castle upon entering the Poly.

Several letters have been written pleading that this not take place, but it is slated to occur the first part of March.

Wow. I love looking down at it from the upper level. That centerpiece IS the Poly lobby. Taking it away for a glimpse of the Castle will definitely take away some of the Polynesian/Hawaiian atmosphere.

Agreed. I am willing to bet this is happening due to the new DVC being built at the Poly. It would not surprise me if they start to restrict people from going to the beach to watch the fireworks and make beach viewing only available to Poly and Poly DVC guests. Everyone else will be able to view from the lobby.

This is purely a guess, though.

It's the end of a very special place, but maybe the beginning of a new one. I'm trying to think positive, though really this makes me sad. I love it as is.

I quit thinking positive about WDW about 2 years ago. The magic is being squeezed out for the dollar. There was once a good balance between the two.

I bet they will take some design cues from Aulani, which I understand has a spectacular, open lobby. I kind of never really liked the Poly lobby. Reminded me too much of a mall or airport.

Not buying the view to the castle excuse... Now, if you were to say because they don't want to spend the money on maintaining the water feature, then I'd buy that!!!

Maybe tikiman can add to this, but my understanding is the water feature is actually very expensive to run and they have constant issues with needs constant maintenance... too pricy anymore...

In all seriousness though, I believe this is actually part of the new branding of Poly... With the added DVC units, they wanted to open the lobby up for what is expected an increase of guest stays... Who knows? Maybe time to modernize the lobby... Always had a 1970's feel to it...

Like Natalie said, they may be making it more like the lobby at Aulani, which is supposedly very nice.

Regarding the expensive of maintaining the water feature, it could be difficult to find the parts to replace nowadays, as it was designed over 40 years ago.

The lobby does at times make me think I'm in an episode of the Brady Bunch...

Yes, that's what I heard as to why it was costly (and difficult) to maintain... But I figured tikiman would have much more information on that...

I'll reserve judgement until I see what the new lobby looks like. I love the area outside the lobby and I like the water feature as a photo op, but the lobby itself has never been one of my favorites. To me, It always feels like a place to walk through more than a place to hang out and enjoy.

I am interested in seeing what is going on. We have ADRs in late March at Ohana. Hopefully what is planned will be nice (and not just new sofa in the middle of the lobby area).

Exactly, I expect they would do this when they redo the pool area, and if they don't... yeah, that would be a surprise. I've always been surprised that they didn't put one in.

Are they also going to remove the water feature outside as you walk into the Poly? That one isn't blocking the Castle view.
