Has anyone tried this? We are heading down next month and staying at AKL and I am debating whether to try this. It's a steep price at $70 per person for an hour. Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated!

...that sounds like an interesting experience ...but not fer nuthin' ...aren't (most of) the animals generally more 'active' in the earlier hours of the day?
...and given that it's at night ....wouldn't you need some kind of night scope / goggles / camera (or similar tech gadget viewing aid) to see whatever animals are "out"?
....if that's the case, I'm envisioning a nighttime safari ...being something like the last 25 minutes of, "Zero Dark Thirty"

I guess you do go backstage to see some of them and they give you night goggles to help. Someone else said there are lights on the savannah to assist with seeing the animals. Still undecided on whether or not to try it. Mainly the cost!

....yes ...The Cost!!
....like I said ...it sounds interesting, but if I had to undertake such an experience ...it'd set me back nearly $300 dollars!!
....if I was going to WDW and staying at AKL ...solo ...I might entertain the idea.
....something else that comes to mind: For the longest time I heard that AK was closed 'early' (no nights) because they didn't want the animals to get stressed ..and out of their normal sleeping / resting 'schedules'. Now I see all these nocturnal activities happening or being planned at AK. Did WDW suddenly decide that the animals don't mind? Or is the almighty dollar taking the front row seat now?
....I have more than just a bit of concern ...if that's the case. I really see the safari at AK as more than an "attraction", I see it as a privilege of sorts. Most persons will never get to do a real safari in the wilds of Africa or Asia ...and to see the animals "up close" ...many of which are now becoming endangered, is a rare experience.
