I liked it too! But....
Why do Elle Fanning and Angelina Jolie have English accents?

For the same reason The Beatles sang with American accents... It sells better.

I'm guessing the English accents are because it's a fairy tale, and the setting of most of those seem older than America. I believe they're mostly taken from European folk tales. And the historical setting and foreign nature of the tale would lend itself to the use of an accent. But of course, the Hollywood generic and easiest for American audiences would be the British accent (which apparently actually sounded more like an American accent historically, until the nobility started using different tones to sound more posh).
But then, the Disney versions didn't really use English accents so... maybe what Jeff says. Or they have actually set the movie in a more old European environment and felt it more true to the setting.

I was on the fence about this movie but after seeing the trailer both me and my ds can't wait to see it.

I was very interested in this when I first heard about it... Angelina Jolie is perfect for this role... Looks interesting... Just got to wonder if this is another large budget blunder by Disney, following in the footsteps of John Carter and Lone Ranger??? We'll find out next year...
As for the British accents... In Disney's Sleeping Beauty, the kingdom is set in a fictional English country... Disney' Aurora is British... Thus the accents... Even though the original stories are set in France (the story of sleeping beauty) and Germany (the story of Briar Rose) I believe...
Son of Jor-El.. Kneel before Zod...
TRICIA JONES: I heard that you were going to propose to Brandi Svenning at some theme park. When are men going to learn that women want ROMANCE, not Mr. Toad's Wild Ride...
BRODIE: Hey, now, be fair. EVERYONE wants Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

Does it bother anyone else that she says Maleficent has "always been there" when according to the story, Maleficent hadn't been able to find her?
I'll meet you at the Rainbow Bridge.

A new trailer is available now, it's called "The Dream".

Is it the one that aired during the Grammy Awards? With Lana del Rey singing "Once Upon a Dream?" It's so creepy! I can't wait.

On the fence
I'm on the fence. I was originally very excited to hear about the concept and the telling of one of my favorite tales from that perspective but it looks like it is a big CGI mess? I may wait a week and hear what others have to say. There just isn't much good stuff out there right now to go see?
