Default Disney Dollars for Disney employees

Hi everyone, I am hoping someone will know the answer to my question.

I usually like to take a few thank you cards with me on our trip to hand out to those CM's that go above and beyond our expectations to make our trip extra magical. I like to put a little tip in the card but this year instead of cash I was thinking of putting a Disney gift card in them but have found out the smallest amount on the card you can get is $25.

My question is are Disney employees able to use Disney Dollars. I was thinking of just getting some $5 Disney Dollars when we get to our resort to put in the cards.

Thanks for the help! 48 days and counting.

I suppose you could do that, but you are assuming they want to spend their tip on property. It is a cute idea, but their dollars (real dollars) will have more value outside the World and they would have to go and have the Disney Dollars exchanged in order to spend it the way they like.

    Just something to consider.

Which CM's are you talking about? Most CM's are probably not allowed to accept monetary gifts if they are not employed in a tipped position.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't know that certain workers were not allowed to receive a tip like a bus driver or food court worker. Guess I better check into that a little further.

At least with me (I was in quick service) I could not accept monetary tips. Thing is, people found some unique ways to "tip" me outside of cash. Probably my favorite and most unique was of a grandfather who had brought his daughter and grandchildren and it was clear that this was their first visit to WDW.

I approached their table and spent about 10-15 minutes walking them through different things that they could do both at Epcot and on property. I then excused myself to go get the family their "First Visit" buttons backstage as a surprise for them.

When I returned to the table, the grandfather had made a little Disney magic for me too. He handed me two pins: One from the Air Force base he was stationed at during Vietnam, and one of commemorating the type of aircraft he flew. He said it meant a lot to him that I had spent the time to work with them about their vacation and that was what he had to thank me. Obviously, I was very touched at what he had done and thanked him for the pins and wished the family a magical day and a magical vacation.

PS: If you want to give the ultimate tip to Cast Members, ask to talk to a manager and compliment him or her to the manager on the job they did or service they provided. The guest feedback does get back to us, and at least in my case gave me a boost during the day knowing I helped make someone's vacation.
