    Default Drowning at POP Centrury

Have a friend who is staying at POP and they saw a lot of activity around the pool this afternoon/evening. Rumor is a drowning at the POP Century pool.

A quick google search shows a posting on another Disney forum around 9:30PM this evening with the same report.

So very sad. Aboslutely horrific for that family, my prayers will be with them. I can't even imagine how this could have happened! We have stayed at Pop Century a half a dozen times & the life guards that we've seen each time were above reproach with their watch on the pool! I've often watched with great respect for their diligence in the way they carry out their responsibilities! Such a tragic accident.

There aren't a lot of details out there yet about this, but it's possible it was already after the life guards had gone off duty for the night.

    Very sad indeed.

The story I read said 'near drowning'. The condition of the boy was not reported.

Oh my gosh. That is so sad. The boy is 13, and he was "found" at the bottom of the pool? Why was he there all alone? NO one should ever swim alone. So tragic. The Sentinel story does not make this sound like a happy ending at all.

Wow, that is so sad. So tragic. As Nat sad, the Sentinel certainly does not make this sound like it had a happy ending.

In response to the lifeguards, aren't they off duty at 8pm? I vaguely remember seeing signs posted everywhere that after a certain time it's swim at your own risk.

Yes, I'm certain this was after they were off-duty.

My boys are 13 and 14. This kind of hits home a little too closely. I hope he's okay!

It's being reported this morning that he has survived and is in serious condition. His father apparently began the CPR. Link to Channel 13 story http://www.cfnews13.com/content/news...ous_condi.html

What an awful thing to happen, especially on vacation. Prayers to the family and the boy.

My boys are 13 and 11. Hits real close to home for me too.

Things happen so quickly! A couple of years ago, my then 12 year old son hit the bottom of the pool with his chin. We were chatting at the deck chairs and didn't see ... Horrible accidents happen quite innocently!

My best thoughts for this poor boy and his family.

Good to get more details on the story. I am relieved to hear he was not all alone when this happened.

Just a good reminder about how fast drowning can happen, though. So scary. I hope this boy recovers fully.

Terrible! Thoughts and prayers to his family. Shocking to me that the boy was 12- goes to show that pools and swimming should be taken seriously, no matter the age of the child!
