    Default Fort Wilderness Campground

My wife surprised me today with the idea of staying at the campground. Our friends have a camper (sleeps 10). We would be taking them with us, we've never stayed anywhere but a resort on property.

What can you tell me about the campground? What is the difference in the types of full hook up, preferred and premium sites?

For those of you that have stayed at resorts and done this, was there a let down of your "Disney Feel"?

Any info you can provide will be appreciated.

We LOVE Ft. Wilderness! We have a motor home and the Fort is our absolute favorite place to go. We definitely have the "Disney Magic" at the Fort, but it's also quieter and more relaxed than the resorts (we've done both). Our favorite Fort activity is relaxing under the awning of the motor home with a cold beer after a day at the parks.

With all that said, people are either campers or not. If you are a camper, my guess is you'll love Ft. Wilderness. If you're not...you probably won't.

Fort Wilderness is without a doubt one of the nicest camping resorts in the country. We took a 5 families last time we went and all had sites next to each other right across from the meadows swimming pool and mercantile / general store. As stated by others though either you are a camper or your not, but FW would be my choice to send a 1st timer anytime There is no driving once you are at your site except for leaving the campground or returning to the campground from being offsite. You can rent electric golf carts which I would recommend as it is 1 mile from the check in station at the front to the boat dock on the lake. There's tons to do just exploring the campground, campfire movies where kids can roast marshmallows, The Hooptidoreview is always a must, horseback riding, petting zoo, the list just keeps going on... Enjoy your stay!

I grew up camping in national and state parks and Fort Wilderness is the best campground there is. The bathrooms are always in tip-top shape, the pools are warm and fun with a waterslide and hot tub (this makes the place higher than value in my book), the food is great, the location is superb-e-o, and there is no place on Disneys property that I would rather stay. You don't need any specific site or loop. I have stayed preferred and non-specific and they are all lovely. One of our favorite loops is spanish Moss lane. We woke up one morning and came out of our tent and we were surrounded by 12 cranes. It was like the storks came to drop off a baby or something. So magical. One of my favorite times to stay is for halloween. They have trick or treating and it's true magic! We have never had any trouble with neighbors or noise or wildlife. It is also a lovely way to wind down from the parks. You are close enough to MK to hear fireworks at night, which is always nice for nights during parties if we aren't going. We stayed for 3 weeks last October and wandered and played and never wanted to go home. You can't go wrong here.

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the campground. Love it more than the hotels. To me, it's Disney-er than most of the hotels because it's been there forever and because it feels like you are staying in Frontier Land. I remember going by there to visit River Country as a kid. The sites are decent-sized and some of the other campers really get in to decorating their sites in Disney decor. The boat to the MK is the same one that serves WL, and it's really fun to sail all over the lake. I just love it there.
