    Default Beach for a day

Would like to take one day and drive the kids to a beach. Would prefer not driving too far but would like to find a place the whole family would enjoy. I appreciate any suggestions!

Cocoa Beach or New Smyrna Beach, both on the east coast, which means waves. West coast beaches have no waves so depends on what you want.

If you choose the gulf side, I suggest Siesta Key, near Sarasoia. It is often ranked as one of the world's best beaches.
Cocoa Beach on the Atlantic side, offers the opportunity to visit the nearby Kennedy Space Center too.
Some may call it Cape Canaveral.

We love Clearwater Beach or slightly south to Indian Rocks Beach on the west coast. There is public access and gorgous quiet beaches for making sand castles, swimming (very calm water), snorkeling, gathering shells, looking for sea turtle nests. We are going for two nights this summer. Worth the side trip - Clearwater Aquarium (home of Winter the Dolphin) and the Single A Phillies team. But would be fun for just one day too! At Clearwater Beach there is a great pier.
