    Default Traveling with a Laptop?

Not sure whether this belongs in the planning or accomodations thread but figured it can be moved as necessary.
For a variety of reasons, I would like to bring my laptop with me on our next trip to the world. But dont feel comfortable leaving it just sitting in its travel bag in the room for the 12-14 hrs a day I am roaming the park. I wont have a rental car so locking it in the trunk is not an option. I had considered putting it int one of the park lockers but would rather not carry yet one more thing. I am staying on property at the Boardwalk. Do they have someplace behind the front desk that they store things that are too valuable to just leave laying around but too big for a wall safe? I am sure I am not unique in this, but have never heard what provisions if any the resorts make.

Could you put it in your suitcase and lock the suitcase while you're not in your room?

I remember Ian talking during a podcast about leaving his laptop behind at the Boardwalk in storage. He said that there is a special locking area in the storage facility where you can drop your luggage off the day you are leaving until you actually leave so you don't have to carry it around. They lock up valuables such as laptop's behind that cage type area. I am not sure if you can leave stuff there on a daily basis though, I don't see why you couldn't just not a hundred percent sure you can. We usually just use it the day we are leaving. Hopefully someone will be a long shortly to confirm that you can leave your laptop there daily.

My husband has to travel with his laptop. We always have it in the room. We try to remember to keep it tucked away in a drawer or in our luggage when not in the room. We always log off and shut it down when not in use, so we aren't too worried about it.

I carry my laptop every trip (at least of the last 20 or so trips). Always leave it in the room. I put it in a drawer when we leave for the day. Never had an issue.

We have traveled with laptops, left them in the room and never had an issue.

Now that we take an iPad we do put that in the room safe since it fits.

I typically take a netbook with me and it fits in the safe so I leave it there.

At both Port Orleans and Wilderness Lodge, I've left my Macbook in it's case in the closet. I have left it sitting on the table (quite a few times) as well without any issues. I did password protect it for privacy.

When off property, we've always had large enough safes to store it in.
I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way.

Before the days of tablets we usually took a laptop and never had a problem leaving it out. I try to at least put it in a suitcase so it's not as obvious, but I'm not really worried about housekeeping stealing our stuff. I've never ever used an in room safe. Even though our tablet would fit in the safe I just don't feel the need.

I certainly didnt mean to imply I didnt trust Mousekeeping. All the folk I have personally interacted with at the resorts have been top notch. And I probably will go with the Drawer/Closet idea. I just get nervous with the annecdotal stories (generic to most hotels) about thieves getting into rooms with as simple an expedient as trying expired/made up room keys on random doors till one opens.

After hearing Ian talk about the lock-up room on check out day I wondered what options there were.

I seem to be in the minority but I usually put our laptops and whatever else we have into a suitcase and lock it. Even when we leave it at luggage on check in and check out I put everything in one carry on and lock it up.

I have read where things were stolen at WL so I would rather err on the side of caution.

We've brought ours before too, and I have had to travel for extended periods for work with mine and had to leave it in my room many times. I have never had an issue. As others have said, just shut it down and if you want, you can put in in your suitcase or in a drawer under some clothes to hide it.

I have an expensive Louis Vuitton travel carry on bag (not computer related). It, cost, and is worth a lot more than my 4 year old Dell laptop. I'm more concered about my bag ! But again I have never had an issue.

I didn't mean to put words in your mouth. I just couldn't imagine who else you were worried about accessing your room.

Each time I take my computer I always let it sit on the desk all connected while in the parks. Never an issue.

I take my laptop all the time. I use a backpack for a csae and just put it back in when I go to the parks. I have had no problems to date.

I've had 50+ stays at WDW resorts over the years, most with a laptop with me. I just put it in a suitcase or carry on bag and lock it when I'm out of the room, if I remember to do that. Never had a problem. Course with DVC, housekeeping is only in the room every 4 days.
