    Default pirates question

Just curious. Is there a backstory name for the " fort " where you board the ride?

    None that I'm aware of.

Keep in mind, that Florida's PotC was quickly added to the Magic Kingdom in 1973 after guest demand. Caribbean Plaza (the "fort") is about the only name I can think of for the building.

PotC was added in Florida and another HUGE attraction for the west side of the park was put on hold indefinitely. Does anyone know what it was?

That would be the Western River Expedition, Walt Disney World's answer to Pirate's. Planned but never built.

The fort that serves as the attraction show building/queue- El Castillo Del Morro and the Torre del Sol is inspired by the Castillo San Felipe del Morro in San Juan, Puerto Rico

    From the DisneyParks blog:

The plane also led Walt (literally) to find inspiration for the look of one classic Disney attraction. According to Mark Malone, son of Pilot Chuck Malone, Walt spotted El Morro fortress while flying over San Juan, Puerto Rico, and remarked that it would be the perfect look for his new Pirates of the Caribbean, which at the time was still in the planning phase.
