Question!!! There are going to be 4 adults an 8 year old and a 2 year old.. Are they going to make us pay the 18% on all of us even though they do not serve the baby?? She will not get her own plate shes too little and she is to eat from her parents plate so will they make us pay the 18% on the 6 of us or jut the 5 plates that were bought and brought to us??

18% of the bill. If you order something for the baby, then you should pay the tip on that.

Gratuity surcharge is applied once the number of heads exceeds 5. The surcharge is a percentage of the bill, and it's the same surcharge regardless of if it's a standard full service restaurant or a buffet/family style.

I agree that 15-20% is just a benchmark. Last nite we ate out during happy hour and the bill was so low we tipped more than 25%.

Likewise for breakfast, as mentioned above: If a waitress visits your table a half dozen times and the bill comes to $8, can you really just tip her $1.60? No, sorry. Not fair.

Otoh, we had such exceptional service one time at the Cali Grill that we were happy to tip more than 20% on a $100 bill.

We think tipping has to be taken on a case by case basis.
