I'm so sorry for your loss. We had a wonderful cat that we swear acted more like a dog than a cat. She got breast cancer of all things and we had to make a the tough decision to put her to sleep when it was obvious she was in too much pain. Our vet sent us a poem called "The Rainbow Bridge". It's a wonderful poem that you can google. We didn't wait very long before we added two more cats to our home, then a dog, and then two more cats just recently. I have two of the cats in my chair with me right now. They add so much joy to our lives but it hurts so much when you have to let them go. It's sweet that your other cat is spending more time with you. I think animals can sense when people are sad or sick.

I lost my 12 year old Weimeraner earlier this year to congestive heart failure. I won't lie to you it was one of the most painful thing I've ever gone through, when your kitty leaves you be with him/her. It will hurt more than you can imagine but in my opinion, being there with Bullet, holding his paw and telling him I loved him again was the only option. The vet even tried to shoo me away and I told her I wasn't letting him be cold, scared and alone when he left me. It hurt to see him go but if I hadn't been there I never would have forgave myself. I am hurting for you so badly knowing your have to go thru this. But just remember he/she wont be in any more pain. *hughughug*

But she came downstairs the morning after our Sam left us, and she was looking all over for him. It was so sad! But since, then she is warmer to all of us and coming to sit in our laps which she never did before. I know she knows that he is gone, and I think she can sense our sadness. We're all sad I guess!
Its now been officially a year since Corky left us.... we were talking about him and Accidentally said his name out loud.... Gus ran over to us and started looking around, chirping at first and then an almost moan. That was the saddest thing I have ever seen... I wasn't sure after a year (and him being only 2 when corky was put to sleep) that he would remember. But he did

We lost our sweet boy, a Daschund named Oscar last month. We were heartbroken and it still hurts but we try to remember all our happy times with him and it makes it a little easier.

It took a year for us to recover when we lost Murphy - he had been a rescue, we met him in the cat room at the Humane Society and he just reached out and tapped me on my arm as we passed. We still think of him. But a year later our vet called us and told us about another rescue, a kitten that had been saved from the side of a road. Ember has been with us for almost eight years now.
I have to say I dread the day we say goodbye.
It does get better, but I have a pretty good idea how you feel!

My sympathy to you. I was devistated when I had to put my Fluff down. She was my best girl for 16 years.
