Default Has this happened to anyone else?

We took a cruise this past August. When we returned to our cabin after being ashore we found the lights on and just assumed that the room was being cleaned. However, we were wrong, the verandah sliding door was open so my DH walked slowly toward it when a gentleman wearing "DRESS WHITES" walked into our room from the balcony. He was holding his hat under his arm and did not say anything. My DH extended his hand and introduced himself. I on the other hand just blurted out what are you doing in our room? He said he was just checking the room and then asked us if our room was being cleaned to our satisfaction and if we had any complaints. I told him our room was spotless each day and the service is great but our room was very loud around 2:00AM . He said that he would look into the noise and walked out. He never gave us a name and we never saw him again. When we saw the person cleaning our room later on we mentioned it to him and he had a puzzled look on his face and really had no explanation.

Our room however was very quiet every night after this.

Um...what??? What do you mean by dress whites? Like, what the Captain wears?

I would have been troubled by this encounter, and would have definitely asked his name, and his position with the cruise line, and then I would have called someone about it. No one should be in your room except housekeeping and maintenance (and only if you reported a problem).

That would have not been okay with me, especially if the room steward had such a puzzled reaction.

Yes he was wearing like what the Captian would wear. I guess It could have been the captain. We had not made any complaints prior to this and he was not forthcoming as to why he was there. Our room was on the 7th deck and he was just standing out on the balcony.

I did not report it since he looked like he worked high up on the ship. But it bothered me greatly to just find someone meandering in the room and out on the balcony.

Uh, it was not the Captain. A Captain would never do that.

You should be aware that it is not difficult to procure "dress whites". This could have been some creep impersonating a ship officer...I would have definitely reported it. Honestly, I would have followed him out of the room and asked him to take me to his boss. That is not cool at all.

The senior crew member officer who is responsible for housekeeping does wear a full white uniform, complete with hat. I can imagine that his duties might include making random spot checks to ensure that his crew members are doing their jobs properly. However, in my opinion he should have propped your room door open while he was inside, and he definitely should have introduced himself by name, his position in the senior staff, and his purpose for being there. Assuming that he was the housekeeping manager, his failure to do so is definitely, as Natalie said, "not cool".

Ed, that was my first thought too, but the fact that the room steward seemed confused when the OP described this man, well, that is a red flag right there. You would think that the steward would simply say, "oh, yes, that was my boss" or something similar to at least confirm that it wasn't a suspicious thing.

OK I am now very creeped out! I never really thought about some creep just going through my room. He looked like he belonged on the ship what with the uniform and hat.

My door was closed and as I said he was not visible in the room until he came off the balcony into our room. Our room did not share balconies with anyone and it was a standard verandah room, mid ship, 7th deck of the Dream. I did not make any complaints about noise until he brought it up. could it be that someone else complained about us and that was why he was there? ( we were very quiet and our 17DD was at the club every night) When I told him our room was very noisy at 2:00 am he said that it should be very quiet.

I think that I would write an inquiring letter to the Disney Cruise line about this incident. At the very least you will feel better about letting them know how much this has upset your experience with the cruise line. I would include cabin number, date of occurance, and if possible what the person looked like.
Let us know if you get any answers.

Not that it's necessarily pertinent in this matter, but the verandahs on most rooms on Dream have separation panels that can be folded back on request to create larger verandahs shared by adjoining rooms. Housekeepers have the tool needed to lock/unlock the partitions.

A letter to DCL may be a good idea; there may be a perfectly logical explanation that we're all overlooking.

I think I will contact Disney. Nothing was wrong in the room and nothing was moved or missing. I am just curious now as to who was in my room.

So I can safely assume it has not happened to anyone else??

Does anyone know the best way to contact Disney about this? An address or phone number?

    Exclamation

Please don't take this the wrong way...

It's a good thing that you have contacted them, but given the rather extensive delay (after all, this happened in August) I seriously doubt that they will be able to provide any decisive answers.

Anyone encountering unusual situations such as this - - whether on a ship, at work, in a store, etc. - - should always report it immediately. That way, the situation can be investigated and addressed in a very timely manner.

HI Ed, no worries I did not take it the wrong way. I know I should have said something then and not wait. It was not the smart choice on my part.

They did respond and since I gave them all the info I could about my cruise they were able to go back to maintenance logs and find out exactly who was in our room. It was all legitimate but they did say in the future to ask for identification or call the guest services right away not to wait.

I also mentioned about how hot the decks get and they said that they are already looking into a solution.

The response was quick and polite and professional.

Um, hello! Obviously it was a ghost who hopped aboard out of the ocean from a past cruise! However, I can't speculate as to the reason for his demise, or what unresolved issues he may have and why he is returning to that cabin...

Ok, I think I've been watching too many ghost shows but that was the first thought I had!
