Storyteller and Surf's Up Breakfasts

We'll be eating breakfast at these two places during our upcoming trip. When we went a few years ago you were able to order off a 'normal' menu at both these places instead of having the buffet. Can you still do that? Or are you 'stuck' with eating the buffet andy paying the buffet price?

Storyteller's gives you the option of ordering off of the menu or serving yourself from the buffet during the morning character breakfast. I was under the impression that the buffet was the only choice during the character experience at Surf's Up! Breakfast in the PCH grill.
