Default Once you are upgraded you never go back story

I was talking to a friend of our family last weekend and the wife told me they had gone to Disney recently. They booked thru a travel agent (I told her about MJ, but she didn't believe me they were free and used another agent......booooooo!!!); She said for a family of 5, with airfare, resort, tickets and the dining plan the price was over $9,000 for 5 nights and 6 days.....I was a little stunned!

Here's the good part.....they were booked originally in POR and when they checked into their room she "said" there was food splattered on the wall and hair in the tub, so she complained (she is a big germaphobe)....and told me the "people" at the front desk never batted an eye and called them a cab and upgraded them to......wait for it.......BEACH CLUB!!!

I told her....you'll never go back to any other resort on Disney property again will ya.....referring to the deluxe category and she said, "oh, most definitely we'll never stay anywhere but the Beach Club!"

Warms the heart that CM "Magic" is still alive and well in the land of Mickey!

I have been upgraded to the BC before. I still feel I would have been happier if the problems hadn't come up in the first place to cause them to upgrade me. Don't get me wrong. I love the BC. The problem is when you book a value resort with the QS dining and they bump you up to a Deluxe that has virtually no counter service available, then it is a hassle on top of the hassle that caused the upgrade to begin with. I kinda want the vacation I paid for. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I would agree with Disney Hungarian, hope the problems would never occur in the first place. A surprise upgrade would be fun, no doubt! We got one when we stayed at Disney's Hilton Head resort. We were paying an incredibly low rate for a studio and they bumped us up to a 2 bedroom. It was wonderful! Have to disagree on the never going back though. We're still staying at ASMu on our next trip and we'll have a blast as usual. For now, we're happy to save on accomodations and splurge on other things.

Wow, for $9000 they SHOULD have been staying at the Beach Club in the first place.

Did they fly first class or something? Holy cow.

Wow! Would the BC even costs $9000 for 5 nights. Thats crazy expensive. I'm so glad we get the greatest tips here on how to make a Disney vacation affordable.

I had a friend whose vacation cost him $2,000 more than it could have just because he wanted the flight that showed a movie. Some people just want what they want.

Pretty sure that MJ could get you 2 separate vacations to the Beach Club for around $9000. At least for a family of 4. Someone needs to look for a better travel agent.

I can't imagine how a vacation with five days at a moderate was costing that much, but your point is that they loved the Beach Club and won't go back to the moderate now. That is pretty much our experience, too, except we started deluxe, then tried a moderate once, felt the difference and will never do it again. It would have been nice if we could have saved money and had the same enjoyment, but not in the cards for us. We're a deluxe family.

    Two things:

    (1) I have a family of 6, and even before we joined DVC we never paid more than around $5000 for a vacation of that duration, and we *always* stayed at Deluxe resorts. During value season, but still...

    (2) If this person is going to be spending nearly $10K on ONE Disney vacation and only staying at Beach Club from now on, she needs to join DVC. Seriously. She could stay in a 2BR for around 175 points or less during value season. You can get points for around $60 for HHI or Vero if you buy resale, so she'd spend around $10,500 for those 175 points and they're REUSABLE. Talk about a good investment!! (And I know, BC is harder to get if you don't own there, but I own all my points at HHI and haven't had a problem getting BCV when I wanted to!)
