    Default July/August Camping

I have not camped in a tent at FW since I was quite young. We typically stay in the cabins. How is it at night sleeping in tents during the summer at FW? I am hesitant to do it due to the heat and humidity. Yet, I think it might be fun for DD8.

I've tent camped in the months of October and May. May was warm but not as warm as the real summer months. Personally, I would not tent camp at Fort Wilderness during July and August. I'd consider it if a had an air-conditioned A or C class motor home!

anything you leave outside over night is like you left it in the pool. little too much humidity for that time of the year and tents

Thanks for the input! Maybe I will try it with her this fall. We stayed at CBR and CSR while there last week.

I did miss the ambiance of the campground.

Unless you like sweating in your sleep, it will not be very comfortable camping in a tent in central Florida in July or August. Now, with a Pop-Up or RV with AC, it's fine.

When we go in summer, we typically stay in the cabins.

Since last weeks trip was just a few nights, I was pondering the tent. However, given the input on this thread, I am glad I didn't.

I guess I should clarify that I am not a camper typically, but like the atmosphere at Fort Wilderness.

I remember watching a show that had people who put window air conditioners on their tent. They cut a hole the size of the unit in the tent and sealed it with duct tape and just had it sitting on a crate.

Very strange - wonder what they did with that gaping hole when an air conditioner wasn't needed??!

you can just bring a strong fan and put a bucket of ice in front of it. its makeshift air conditioning. it works pretty well. we camped the last week of April and it was hot. Our tents were like saunas during the day. We learned right away that we werent going to have any reprieve from the florida sun. Us younger people did ok but my parents were sun poisoned by day 4 and when we asked if we could upgrade, all they had open was grand floridian.

We once camped in early Sept and it was so hot at night that we tried buying a block of ice from the ice machine and placing it on top of the dome tent-cold air always goes down,right?-all it did was make a big puddle and a tiny ice cube on the tent by morning

Adding AC to a tent is not difficult and some newer tents actually have small vents in the lower sides that unzip (both tent and screen) to allow a hole.

Tent camping in the heat is not bad with the right equipment. We've done it in very lat August through early Sept. and it was HOT during the day. Now... it's nicer in the Fall... but if August is all you can do... do it. I would do late August over July... for the crowds too. The nights are comfy with fans... We have camped in FW with a Class A , Class C and tents... we LOVE the tents. There are some very nice tents out there that are so spacious and hold in warm/cool air rather nicely. It's all what you like... not everyone likes tent camping... you know yourselt better than anyone... go with what YOU like. We camped in November last year.... we froze at night and had to go buy little heaters..... then we were toasty all night
