The much-anticipated New York INTERCOT meet
Once upon a time, through a discussion board far, far away, we held a Disney meet in New York City twice each year. For various reasons, that tradition has recently stopped.
I have talked to many of the wonderful folks from the old group about getting the band back together, so to speak. After months of idle discussion, I am motivated to actually make this happen. I know planning meets is complicated and stressful and ridiculously more difficult than it seems, but the end result is worth the hassle.
So, let's use this thread to start planning the Winter 2011 New York INTERCOT meet. I propose we get together on a weekend at the end of this month or in early February if necessary. Once we gauge the interest -- and I hope there still is interest -- we can take the conversation off the boards and into e-mail.
Please post in this thread letting me know if you'd want to attend a meet, and perhaps propose a workable weekend.
To kick it off, I am thinking we meet either Jan. 22 or 29. Let's start the bidding there and see where we end up.
And please, do not be shy, even if you have never been to a meet before. They are tons of fun, as many people here can attest. The beauty of these boards are the real-life friendships that stem from them. The only way to cultivate those relationships are to get away from the computer screen and out into the world together.
Looking forward to seeing everybody!

I have never been to an intercot meet before, but I am very intrested! I would love to meet my fellow posters. Please keep me informed when the plans are set. Thanks! So excited
Next Visit: Fall 2013

We have 999 happy haunts here, but there's room for a thousand. Any volunteers?? If you should decide to join us, final arrangements, may be made at the end of the tour.

Just out of curiosity Jared, why would you do this?

Hi, Melanie! Hope all is well.
After organizing a few of these, I found that people -- especially those traveling from a longer distance --- always seem to get stuck in traffic or delayed somehow and have no way to contact the group. Since then, we have always collected e-mail addresses to shoot out last-minute changes of plans on the day before and the day of the meet. So many people, including myself, get e-mail on their phones. I don't think many people check the boards that way, but I could be wrong.
In terms of setting the initial plans, all that is always done on the boards. But things have gone wrong in the past when we didn't have another way to contact everybody and communicate with the group as a whole on short notice.

The only date I could possibly make it would be Jan 29. I would have to check with DH and see if there was anything going on that weekend.
Thanks for organizing this! I hope I can make it!

I went to a few of the meets he speaks of. They really were a good time. We started out at the World of Disney store before heading off to a restaurant for a meal with friends.
If I was still in NYC, I'd make the time to join you in your meet. I'll just have to be there in spirit this time!
Jared, I hope you can make this work. I think the idea of getting email or cell info is a good one so that everyone who intends on going has contact info for the meet in case someone is running late or lost, they don't miss out.

I am trying one last-ditch effort to put something together for Saturday afternoon. I have received a few messages on Facebook and e-mail from people asking if we're still on. I really want to be, but it all depends on interest.
So let's do a head-count and see if we have enough people involved to make it worthwhile. Even if it's just four or five, I think we'll have a good time.
EDIT: If this week does not work for you anymore, would next week work better? I sincerely hope we can make this happen!

Do you have a time and place picked out? I'm interested!

I am still waiting on some people. Once that happens, I can see if it's feasible for this weekend.

It seems the snow last night interfered with any potential planning. I propose we try to hold the meet Saturday, Feb. 5. That gives us two extra weeks to make this happen.
How does that sound to everyone?

The much-anticipated New York INTERCOT meet
I already have plans for the 5th. The 12th is Valentine's weekend, the 19th is president's day weekend and the 26th may be part of school vacation for some districts
Does anyone want to wait until later in March when the weather may be more cooperative or is February 26th good for people?

I like the idea of Feb. 26. That gives us about six weeks to plan and generate interest.

Any plans as to what we will be doing? I know the usual lunch and I am guessing the new Disney Store in Times Square.

I suppose so, unless anybody has any better ideas. My only request is we find a restaurant that's quiet enough that we can actually talk! I hate when we sit at those huge tables and no one can talk to anybody.

An updated list. Please let me know if I forgot anybody. As a reminder, the plan is to meet outside the Disney Store in Times Square at 11 a.m., and we will head to lunch at the nearby Heartland Brewery around 1. I figure that gives us enough time for the tour, plus any extra shopping and exploring we want to do.
From INTERCOT
Jared (Jared), plus one. (2)
TikiGoddess (Kathy), plus three (4)
dwonderz (Drew), plus one (2)
JPL (Jeff) (1)
Beach Club Babe (Heather), plus two (3)
Scar (Jeff) (1)
Emme&TeddysMom (Thayre), plus three (4)
MinnieMommie (Amy), plus one (2)
lindique (Linda), plus one (1)
TheSorcererofFantasia, plus three (4)
Other Disney fans from around the web
Steve (some of you know him from past meets) (1)
Becky, plus three (4)
Jeff, plus three (4)

Total: I count 34. Unreal. My reservation at Heartland was for 25. I guess I better call back and increase that number.
UPDATE: Unfortunately, Heartland cannot make us a regular reservation for a group this large. Twenty-five was pushing it. Close to 35 is impossible. That means we will have a limited menu (plus a kids menu, I believe). It also means that it will cost adults about $26 each. Not thrilled about the arrangement, but I understand that we are putting a strain on the restaurant. Thirty-five is a lot of people, and it may even grow from here in the coming days.
I will post the menu when it is sent to me. Other suggestions are, of course, encouraged.
