Default The much-anticipated New York INTERCOT meet

Once upon a time, through a discussion board far, far away, we held a Disney meet in New York City twice each year. For various reasons, that tradition has recently stopped.

I have talked to many of the wonderful folks from the old group about getting the band back together, so to speak. After months of idle discussion, I am motivated to actually make this happen. I know planning meets is complicated and stressful and ridiculously more difficult than it seems, but the end result is worth the hassle.

So, let's use this thread to start planning the Winter 2011 New York INTERCOT meet. I propose we get together on a weekend at the end of this month or in early February if necessary. Once we gauge the interest -- and I hope there still is interest -- we can take the conversation off the boards and into e-mail.

Please post in this thread letting me know if you'd want to attend a meet, and perhaps propose a workable weekend.

To kick it off, I am thinking we meet either Jan. 22 or 29. Let's start the bidding there and see where we end up.

And please, do not be shy, even if you have never been to a meet before. They are tons of fun, as many people here can attest. The beauty of these boards are the real-life friendships that stem from them. The only way to cultivate those relationships are to get away from the computer screen and out into the world together.

    Looking forward to seeing everybody!

Just out of curiosity Jared, why would you do this?

Hi, Melanie! Hope all is well.

After organizing a few of these, I found that people -- especially those traveling from a longer distance --- always seem to get stuck in traffic or delayed somehow and have no way to contact the group. Since then, we have always collected e-mail addresses to shoot out last-minute changes of plans on the day before and the day of the meet. So many people, including myself, get e-mail on their phones. I don't think many people check the boards that way, but I could be wrong.

In terms of setting the initial plans, all that is always done on the boards. But things have gone wrong in the past when we didn't have another way to contact everybody and communicate with the group as a whole on short notice.

I went to a few of the meets he speaks of. They really were a good time. We started out at the World of Disney store before heading off to a restaurant for a meal with friends.

If I was still in NYC, I'd make the time to join you in your meet. I'll just have to be there in spirit this time!

Jared, I hope you can make this work. I think the idea of getting email or cell info is a good one so that everyone who intends on going has contact info for the meet in case someone is running late or lost, they don't miss out.

Put that way, it certainly makes sense. Thanks for explaining and good luck getting everything together.

Best of luck with your new position.

Sounds good to me! I will have to check my Calendar when I return to work and see which works best for me.

The only date I could possibly make it would be Jan 29. I would have to check with DH and see if there was anything going on that weekend.

Thanks for organizing this! I hope I can make it!

I really hope you can make it, Kathy!

So we have a vote for Jan. 29. Let's go from there.

I won't be able to make it on the 29th but the 22nd works. However, I wouldn't want that to be the cause of the meet not happening.

It looks like we are seeing a good amount of support for Jan. 22. Should we make that the day and go from there? I hate to exclude anyone, but it seems both days work for some and not for others.

Here's the list of people so far:

    Jared
    Emme&TeddysMommy
    JPL
    MinnieMommie
    ElenitaB

It's a start. I know we can get more people, though!

Lisa, would you be able to come if we did it the week before?

I'm not going to be able to make either date now My kids have been invited to birthday parties both weekends. Trust me I would rather hangout with all my intercot friends. Maybe next time. Hope you all have a great time, I would love to hear about it!

Well, since The Giants aren't in the playoffs, put me down as a definite maybe.

And you can also put me down as someone who will never use his phone to check email or anything else but make a "phone call".

I am trying one last-ditch effort to put something together for Saturday afternoon. I have received a few messages on Facebook and e-mail from people asking if we're still on. I really want to be, but it all depends on interest.

So let's do a head-count and see if we have enough people involved to make it worthwhile. Even if it's just four or five, I think we'll have a good time.

EDIT: If this week does not work for you anymore, would next week work better? I sincerely hope we can make this happen!

I am still waiting on some people. Once that happens, I can see if it's feasible for this weekend.

It seems the snow last night interfered with any potential planning. I propose we try to hold the meet Saturday, Feb. 5. That gives us two extra weeks to make this happen.

How does that sound to everyone?
