Bring a black-light to check for bedbugs???
So it is just after Halloween is over, we had fun playing with the black-light,and got me thinking I should pack one for our trip in Dec to check for bedbugs. Now I know Disney does everything they can to keep them out. However as a party of 9 with 7 kids ages 1-16, I am not taking ANY chances. So is it crazy to take it and will it work??

I have never heard of using a black light for bedbugs as they are big enough to see and usually many of them clumped together.
I have only heard of the black light being used for body fluid detection around the room as seen on shows like 20/20. I don't think I would want to know the results from that........

And the evidence of them even if they are not present when you are looking.
Just do a little internet research and you'll know what to look for.

Anything crawling in my bed that I need a black light to see....I'd rather not see. Ignorance is bliss.

Don't know where you got the idea that a black light would help you see bedbugs.
Uncover the corners/sides of the mattress. With the naked eye, look along the tape of the mattress, especially in the folds on either side of the tape, for bugs and/or dark spots. If you see tiny, dark spots there or anywhere on the mattress, THAT is the telltale sign of bedbugs.
It'll be very obvious. Don't make it more complicated than it has to be.

A black light will not help you... You should probably be able to see any evidence my cheeking the mattress or what you can try is taking a travel iron set on the lowest possible setting and putting it on a towel in the center of the bed. If the crittters are hungry, they will come to the warmth of the iron.

This may sound gross but it works. Bring a sanitary napkin with you on your trip. Peel the sticky back off and stick it to the mattress. If you see little maroon spots on the pad when you peel it off the mattress then it means there are bedbugs. Now you can just call down to the desk to tell them you need a new room due to bugs. If you do not get a quick response bring the pad down to the counter and I am sure you will get a quick response then. I don't think you will need to go this far with Disney. I have never done this, but I did do the check and happily no spots-so bugs. Always clean at Disney!

I've seen this suggestion on other boards, and I have no clue why it has to be a maxi-pad and not just plain duct tape, masking tape, etc. Either would work just as well, and would be much more likely to have you taken seriously by the front desk.
I mentioned the sanitary napkin thing to a former resort CM, and asked what the reaction would be if a guest came to the desk with one. I never found out the answer, because they couldn't stop laughing.
If you want to try picking up bedbug debris to show the desk, just throw a small roll of masking tape in your suitcase.

A friend also recommended looking online to see if there had been any reported cases. There has been none at Coronado Springs.

Coronado Springs is a large resort with many buildings. I would not decide whether or not to stay here on a case of bedbugs reported on an internet site. For the last 4-5 years, I have checked for bed bugs every time I enter a hotel room. In a Disney World resort, if one were to discover the presence of bed bugs, it would be likely they have not been there overly long and it is certainly unlikely they would be a resort-wide phenomenom. This is why I would not depend on a internet report of a potential infestation.
