    Default Tomorrowland elevated track

Does anyone know how many years we have to look at the eyesore that is unused space in Tomorrowland known as the former Peoplemover track (a.k.a. former Rocket Rods track)??

I dislike not having anything up there for so long. Is that Disney's vision of the future? Kind of sad future if you ask me.

Star Tours 2.0....great. It needed an update, but hello imagineers.....time to revisit this old structure. If you aren't going to use it, then get rid of it completely.

Otherwise it remains a reminder of yesterdayland.

    433 miles away from Disneyland!
2,836 miles away from Walt Disney World!

I have often wondered this too. Hope they do something with it. I loved the People Mover and would actually like to see it back. I also occasionally miss the skyway from Tomorrow Land to Fantasy Land (and vice versa). This was a relaxing way to get across the park.

It does serve a purpose...it's a leaf collector...of the future.

I have always thought DLs People Mover was way better than WDW. Too bad they messed it up with Rocket blunder. Not only did Rocket Rods destroy my beloved PM but it cleared out the CircleVision for the queue. What a waste.

    Anything up there!

    Or nothing!

Better than a barren track there to remind us that our future holds only leaf collectors.

    LOL

I would love to see the Rocket Rods return, but done right with banked curves and some serious speed. Maybe a Light Cycle Tron inspired look.

That would be awesome. It probably wouldn't be that hard to implement either. SOMETHING should be done...

I never got to ride Rocket Rods.

I heard that they are working on a solution for the leaf collector of the future.

Rumor has is it that it will be revealed at the D23 event.

    I certainly hope so!

I agree Drizella (Welcome back!). Either use the track or remove it.

If it remains it just reminds us all of the past....not the future.

P.S. MegaDisney knows that number of posts doesn't mean anything to me. I'm shocked that I have this many actually.

Seems most of the folks on IntercotWest are DLR regulars, so it's very interesting for me as an interloper from the east.

I was just yesterday standing in line for something or other and wondering what that empty track was. It looks as though from the submarine lagoon, you were once able to see 5 different types of transportation -- the DLR Railroad, the subs, the monorail, the Autopia and this other track.

I had no idea what this track used to hold -- now I have to go look it up! I'm really surprised they are choosing to leave it vacant (and deteriorating), but they did leave the Skyway buildings up in WDW's MK long after the Skyway was retired from service.

So, I was listening to some old podcasts, and this topic came up!

They mentioned that the reason why nothing has been done to the track is because of OSHA new regulations. So, apparently, if this reopened as a new attraction, there would need to be egress stairways in regular intervals (not sure what the distance between would be...but it's a small amount, something like every 50ft) for emergency escape. This is why the Alice in Wonderland attraction has recently been retrofitted with an "elevated platform" surrounding the outside track portion, so that people can safely exit the vehicles should the ride stop (and for the safety of maintenance workers).

The process of adding stairways to the track would be daunting, considering all the current structures/tracks/attractions underneath the track. It would be a massive undertaking, and not visually pleasing. Word is, they are "working on a solution". Who knows what that means...

I mean, it sort of stinks. OSHA exists to keep people safe, I get that. But, it seems to me that in California, it's a matter of overkill sometimes the way these regulations are written.

I actually heard a similar tale, but the one I heard had to do with the distance required from the ride to a wall/other objects. It mentioned that there were some places that a wall was simply a barrier for stations/queues of other rides.
