Attire for the cruise - formal night

I was wondering if there is only one formal night or if I had to bring along an extra "fancy" outfit for any other night on the cruise.

Formal night isn't done on the 3 and 4 night cruises. If I remember correctly from our 4 night, there was a formal optional night. Most people dressed in cruise casual though.

I hope that true...We did a 7 day West this past Easter and my DH (who wears a suit everyday) and DS's (one who wears a shirt and tie to HS) really do not want to get dresssed up on vacation.
We will be on a 3 day next August, so they will be thrilled with a golf shirt for dinner.

The 3 night is cruise casual and the optional night is for the Pirates of the Carribean, where you can dress up like pirates if you want.
